Blast from the past: Shartley grips??

It’s been a long time but considering how many MCB people seemed to love Shartleys finger groove hand made wood grips some 12 or whatever years ago, I don’t see photos of guns equipped with em much.

anyone with Shartley gripped guns care to share a photo?

for newer guys Shartley was a guy who made fancy hand made wood grips and also something called banDUs or something which I believe were like a sandana head wrap and had a brand like “dark leaf”
or something before moving on from paintball.

To my knowledge he stopped being involved with paintball without owing anyone a bunch of money or stealing a bunch of guns which is the exception not the rule when it comes to paintball specialists.

    Lets see some grips!

I got a legit belly laugh off that. And I learned something here.

I've used one of Shartley's bandu's for freaking YEARS now. Like since 2006 I think it's been my main head wrap. Only just this last year it's started to fray at the edges so I'm replacing it. Every time I pull that thing out it's like "oh yeah Shartley...haven't heard that name in a while". I also have one of the jerseys he made for a friend who gave it to me.

But yeah I haven't seen the grips in ages. I'm not even sure I remember what they look like.

I still wear my South Carolina Roadkill banDU he made for us during every outing. Shartley was a great guy I still have my LPPC patch and signature.

I had a pair of grips from Rifle on the old forums. I recall Shartley the name, but I dont recall his grips specifically. Idlike to see a picture of em now.

Was he doing the laser engraved neat wood grips?

Shartley had quite a few different quality services and products like custom barrel bags, custom jerseys and embroidery options. Along with the mentioned wood grips and also checkering services. He even had his own section/sub-forum on the website. That link is from April of 2004 and his section was removed from the site some time around 2005 or 6-ish iirc. Like gabe kind of mentioned, Shartley helped sponsor an Alaska paintball team at one point. Shartley was also a founding member of the LPPC(Limit Paint Players Club). And as mentioned by Cunha iirc, he left with out any debt of products or services, that I'm aware of. But, I do remember him leaving with bad feeling towards at least one former member here*cough*Drum*cough*. I don't know the details but, there seemed to no love loss between them.

Cunha unfortunately, my efforts to recover some pics from shartley's old "members gallery" was a failure.

I saw that the title had the word shart in it and that Carp had posted and decided I was into a risky click this morning. I'm honestly a bit disappointed.

His name was Sam Hartley... hence "shartley"... 😉

His wood grips had deep finger grooves and were all unique. They were all done by hand the slow and meticulous way. I don't think he owned a laser engraver or used one. They were something that if you made a living doing you would have to charge like 700 dollars a set. They were expensive and not for everyone but they were pretty unique. If you see wood grips on a paintball gun that look like someone took a pile of clay and gripped it and it set and become a paintball grip, it is probably a shartly grip.

I thought of him when I took this new (to me) grey ghost and I think I recall carter here having had some panels made by shartly on a ghost but maybe not.

I wish he were still making them. I'm trying to find a good replacement and all that's available are these crappy mesh head wraps.

I have one of his banDUs still, it's held up well over the years. I never considered his name all that funny back then, but "shart" has certainly become a more well used term!

I've had a go at some battle grips myself. I've had some nice dyed laminated wood for about a year that I keep meaning to make some 45 battle grips for my Phantom. I haven't found the inspiration just yet though.

Did he do panels and pump handle too for Sheridan? I remember custom woods grips on this website but picture are lacking on my end.

I don’t think those are from him. Many many people have made flat Sheridan panels since the stock plastic ones leave something to be desired.
