What is the origin of calling double barreled paintball guns nasty's?

Probably the same reason a cool nickel plating job is called "classic". Because Glenn Palmer said so.

I think Glenn originated the term to market his doubles, and it worked so well that it eventually became a generic term for double-barrelled guns the same way that any tissue might be called a Kleenex regardless of the brand

I only call PPS double barreled guns Nasty. I try to call the rest whatever their manufacturer called them.

Only Palmers used the term.
The Wintek double Thunderbolt is not called nasty, neither is the Got-Ya deuce. Yet both have twin barrels.

Okay, while I probably have some of the details wrong, as noted, it comes from Palmer's.

Palmer's first semiauto was built at a time when a direct-fed, true semi (IE, not a double-action or something) was basically unheard of. It was so much of a game-changer, Glenn named it after Hurricane Camille, which, as I recall, was the or one of the most devastating storms to hit the US.

Later, when he started building them for customers, they were built off of KP rifles, which were common at the time. These he called Hurricanes.

Not long after that, he started making his own brass from scratch, incorporating a few changes that the stock brass needed. Keeping with the storm-theme naming, these were called Typhoons.

Somewhere along the line, either Glenn himself or a customer asked hey, if you're already custom building them, could you make one with two barrels? I have no idea if the first one was on a Hurricane or Typhoon platform, but since it was based on an existing gun, just with one extra barrel, instead of coming up with an all-new name, these simply became a Nasty Hurricane, or Nasty Typhoon. (IE, "that's a pretty nasty storm out there", etc.)

Now, at this point, Palmer's guns have been around for something like 35 years, and "Nasty" versions for at least 30 of those, and considering they're very likely one of the more commonly-seen double-barrels out there, people now tend to call any double a 'nasty'. Especially considering how many custom doubles Palmers has made- Nasty PGPs, Nasty Painters, Nasty Paladins, etc.

But, as Seth notes, really only the Palmers are truly "Nastys". The Gotch-Ya is a Deuce, the custom Pahntom is, what, a Phoenix? My 'Cockers are Vee-Twins, Ken's are Ma-Deuces, and any other custom out there is... whatever the maker wants to call it.

Glenn has also mentioned that the double barreled design was an attempt at shooting both sides of a tree at the same time. Not sure uf that was this idea or a customers, but I've heard him refer it a few times.

It was Dan DeBone (former PPS manager?) who asked Glenn to make a Nasty Typhoon... Glenn had been making double barrel pumps and semi-auto singles for awhile, Dan asked him to combine the setups.

kpcs makes a ditto deuce and a ma deuce a which are different doubles not called nasty too

Didn't palmers have another term for something else as well? Something like stick feeds were all called something.

the nasty impulses were in some kinda violation of Palmer prior art and stuff but who cares. They were just another mill job on a pretty poor gun.

Now that I think of it though, and someone would have to ask him, but IFRC wasn't "Nasty" an in phrase at that time like "cool" or "awesome"?
