    Removing a STUCK regulator

    Hey fellas,

So I picked up some guns off Kijiji with the intention of getting them running and flipping them. Unfortunately it would appear that someone either has an anger problem, or a fear of leaks, and absolutely cranked the reg into place. It's a standard Ion with a CP reg on it. In order to avoid idiot marks or having to literally break the gun apart, does anyone have any tips on getting it out of there?

I have tried heating it up with a hair dryer, and will try a full on heat gun this week when I'm at my parents, but other than that I'm not sure what to do.

Strap wrench, heat and a little oil. Mind the screws on the strap wrench so you don’t scratch a ring around the regulator

I prefer to use the cheap all plastic & rubber strap wrenches. While not as sturdy, they're plenty strong enough for use on paintball equipment and they don't have any metal parts to potentially scratch the finish.

Same tip, put oil at the seam and wait, repeat couple time

then use a strap wrench or wood in a vice

i have groved two pieces of wood with a radius and use thick silicone sheet in between for similar purpose

all rubber slip-on style bike grip

i use one off an old mongoose

they are designed to stretch to hold on to something about 7/8ths - 1 inch dia.

you push it over the reg, twist it off

i have never had a strap wrench get as much bite as grips do,

i have broken apart barrels that were caked up with enough old paint to simulate loctite. just by pushing the grips ont each end and giving it a good solid twist

as long as the grips are clean on the inside, no scratches

Does it the gauge holes in the reg? I’ve had decent luck taking two Allen wrenches in the plugs and using them like a T handle in a pinch to get regs off that have capped gauge holes. Wear your safety squints.

            Not a fitting. A plug.

If you are planning on replacing the seals anyway, use a penetrating oil on the ASA threads. Paintball gun oil won't wick into the threads very well, but G96, PB Blaster, Kroil, et al will and will lower the force required considerably.

I prefer vice and wood to strap wrenches generally.
