    Chronograph

What chronograph are you guys using? I have an old x-radar, but hate the “hold just right to the barrel” method. Would prefer to shoot through the area. What has everyone found to be reliable? Thanks!

I doubt the accuracy of my xradar. I would like to get a big red one or maybe something else stationary of similar quality. Can ones for firearms be used or maybe ones for pellet/air rifles? .

I just picked up one of the Caldwell's today

I needed something that can measure in a shorter range than my little yellow radarchron

Have not tried it out yet, can report later

This guy. The seller did a test compared to other chronos and it was constantly 5 fps low. That’s good enough for me.

I scored a Big Red on Craigslist a number of years ago for a great price. They're the best. I've used the little yellow Radarchron and the Virtue Clock and they're a bit finicky and I'm skeptical of their accuracy at times. More so with the Radarchron than the Virtue.

I use a Radarchron. Mine has been spot on. It is a battery hog so if you use it a lot, might need to change the battery more often.
It needs to be 1-2 inches from the tip of the barrel.

Mine actually broke and i repaired it, so maybe that's why mine works

                  Got a small radachron too.
seem to get consistent reading when 1 to 2 inches in front of the barrel ... The "barrel clamp" method get reading all over the place ...

Now I think of it, I need to bring it to the field and test it against the ones they have ...
Love my brass ... Love my SSR ... Hard choices ...

The Caldwell seems to do pretty good. I need to compare to the radarchron but overall it's pretty nice to have a Chrono station that's all of 2 feet long

Thank you for the input so far. Is there any experience with these? I have precharged air rifles and archery that could benefit from a chrono such as this, along with paintball.

I use the Virtue Clock it works well but for pumps you need two hands to chrono. For that I much prefer the Good Old Big red. The Clock just fits in a gear bag more easily and takes up less room and I got it for a killer deal in a trade.

I would love to find a big red... I have the Xradar and the virtue3 both work great but would really like a big red.

I mean, I don't have that exact one but my Caldwell is the same basic idea. Uses timing lights rather than radar. So far it's been great, but I have only shot over it a total of 6 times
