Removing cigarette/tobacco smell from soft goods & plastic

I bought a bunch of airsoft & paintball goods in a garage cleanout box (pics here). I’m selling off a few items (JT Flex, a harness) but before they’re listed I want to get rid of the reek of cigarettes. So far I’ve aired them out some and then stuck them in a sealed 5gal bucket with a quarter inch of baking soda at the bottom. Neither has removed the smell. I can wash the harness, but what will get rid of the smell from the masks? I don’t want to destroy the foam - it’s still pretty nice.

To get rid of smell in plastic bucket (for beer making) I use "Oxiclean Free" laundry detergent and soak for 30 min.

not sure if I would trust this for a lens but you could try some non critical parts to see

I have a set of old disintegrating ski goggles. I’ll give this a shot with those to see if it destroys the foam or lens. Thanks!

I've used Theves or Purification essential oil in a bag or bucket with success.

Oxi clean, or a peroxide based cleaner, diluted in water to soak.

Make a gas box and blow ozone in there ...

It does ... But the 20 minutes it will take to take the smell out isn't going to damage anything ...
Hotels use ozone generator to take the smoke smell out of the rooms. I've done it with cars and a 30 minutes round 2 or 3 times usually does the trick ...
I can post pictures of my setup (I made my own) if people are interested.

True, as long as it's not left in there for a while it should be ok.

Ozonator Will work 100% It removed Skunk spray that covered my rental apartment because the skunk and neighbors cat decided to get into it right next to my forced air furnace induction. I use it on used cars all the time to remove that cigarette smell. Scrub the inside of the windows and run the thing for a day and the smell is gone.

OxyClean seems to be the most approachable right now. I’ll give that a go and will report back with how it affects elastic, plastic lens frames, foam, and the lens.

I used rubbing alcohol to get tobacco residue off of a 2011 Proto Rail I bought a few months back. I had no idea it was even possible to make aluminum and GRN retain cigarette smell until that thing showed up. The alcohol dissolved the invisible layer of residue off the marker and allowed me to wipe it off with a paper towel, which killed the smell.
        Working...
