Should Air be able to Leak from this Hole? (Phantom)

I bought this phantom over a year ago and it has had a leak since I got it, and I figured it was the hard line. I finally swapped it, and it still leaked. I tried a bunch trying to stop it form the hard line. Finally I sprayed it with soapy water and found that the leak was coming from the top hole on the vertical asa. Should air be able to leak from there? I have never seen any asa that requires the screw holes to be sealed. Is this thing toast? I wrapped the screw threads in teflon which stopped the leak, but I'm not crazy about that band aid fix.

Is this normal, if not, is there a fix or is this toast?

It was a good thing you added the brackets to follow up a title like that.

I don't think that hole goes any way near an air passage. Are you 100% sure the leak is not coming from the compression fitting?

I was as surprised as you!

It is 100% coming from that hole. The soap bubbled directly around that screw clear as day. Then I put my finger over that screw and the sound changed. Once I put teflon on that screw it stopped the leak right away. All I can assume is that the previous owner used a screw way too long and screwed it in so tight it cracked the metal behind the screw.

that's just a mounting screw and shouldn't leak. someone prob used wrong screw at some point and forced it in there messing up the metal.

If that hole is leaking someone f’d up bad. The vasa mounts aren’t drilled through to the interior air chamber. Teflon tape should hold fine. You could go with blue loctite for better piece of mind.

Drop some loctite down in the hole and then put the screw in.
This is not worth replacing the ASA for, but yeah it's messed up. That is a very surprising place to get a leak.

Ohh man, I wish it was a joke...I should have got video of it bubbling... I just packed the hole with Loctite and more teflon tape on the screw. I'll air it up tomorrow when I know everything is dry and sealed.

I dont think mixing loctite and teflon tape is recommended. I would use one or the other

really? this is the first time I used loctite on a paintball gun...Too late at this point I guess. What is the worst that can happen?

won't hold pressure over the long term is the worst consequence.

It may not cure properly if the teflon reacts with any of the solvents in the loctite. No big deal if that happens, you'll know in an hour or so. If it doesn't cure right, I'd clean up with acetone or other solvent, and try again using just the loctite.

Loctite cures almost instantly. The pressure of the threads scrubbing will set make it set up.

With this advice I just aired it up, and there is no longer a leak!

It would be pretty easy for you to take the vertical ASA off and see that it does indeed go through to the air passageway. I guess it got drilled too far or someone put a wrong screw in and jammed it hardcore..who knows. Weird luck, and ive never seen it . Only ones that I remember being challenged were punished modded ones where he fit guide rods to them.
