I’ve been using a .684 lapco bigshot with a .676 and .680 breach inserts as needed for years and it’s been perfect.

      Whatever looks good
& stop the paint from rolling out.

everything mentioned works great. Just start buying barrels and keep buying until you have too many and realize they all shoot about the same for recreational play.

      the paint quality matters most.

This is the unfortunate truth. Barrel performance splits hairs while paint quality makes or breaks a good day. Anything close to the paint size your shooting will work well. Length is just preference. Some like short tight setups, some like long setups depending on field and play style. So just find one that looks nice with what you are building you can’t really go wrong.

I like a fixed bore barrel with free dummy ball retainer fingers.

current favorite is a 14 inch double vented spiral ported deadly wind null

Same. One of my best shooting barrels is a 14" 2-piece .688 J&J with dummy detents. Could it be more efficient? Sure, but who cares.

For when the paint is good enough for the barrel to matter, I still like the stainless freak kit coupled with a deadlywind barrel when possible.
