Can a classic spyder shoot 400fps on HPA?

Not looking to shoot that velocity, mostly concern on the reading of my radarchron

Did some backyard velocity check on two old spyder I am selling locally and my Radarchron is showing velocity of 400 fps. Last time I shot a spyder was several years ago with C02 so I dont know whats needed to shoot a spyder without a HPR on HPA.

They are just stock classic side cocking spyder with stock oversize 693 barrel using .682 ball. Both without reg, one with an expansion chamber and the other with macro between the ASA to the lower tube (similar setup as spyder victor). Shooting on HPA tank
even if I play eith the velocity adjuster the number wont change. I shoot quite close to my target (garbage bin gilled with tree branch) so can not see if the shoot look right by eye. Does not feel that quick.

could the large porting located only at last 1" end of those barrel could false the value?

Also it wont recock if there is no ball in the barrel. But shoot well with ball in barrel.

If not I guess will need to change the spring to a stiffer spring on the valve or a lighter spring at the hammer

I doubt that's a correct reading given that it's all stock.

Is it one of those yellow handheld chronographs? They seem to need a lot of space in front of the barrel to accurately measure, and juuust the right amount of sunlight.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

        Yes its one of those
Space was 10 feet but I was in a mix of shade and light so could be a reason

If the Spyder isn't recocking (due to back pressure) without a ball then I suspect your chrony isn't correct. There should be more than enough pressure in the marker at 400 fps to recock.

Are any of the guns you used at DDay still tuned, and set how they were that day? They're probably still chrono'ing at 280fps, and could be a good test to check if your chrono is mis-reading.

I did this and the other gun reading was somewhat OK (slightly off from last time so might have a battery issue). This is why I was wondering if the oversize port at the front could cause this...

Buy a Splatmaster and if it chronos over 250 you know you have issues.

You need a new battery. Radarchrons work pretty good, at least mine does, but once the battery starts to be drained, like %30 weird things start happening.
I shoot mine in a garage with mix light and it works fine. You need about 2 inches of barrel sticking past, so hang it on the barrel, to work correctly.

400 fps Spyder would also be stupidly loud. I only got up to 387 fps on an 800psi tank...
