PGP Valve stuck

I have a PGP that I am replacing valve with Palmer parts. I have done this before and I have the valve tool.
when I used valve tool to remove valve. I only had a few of the pieces come out. I am planning to use a wooden dowel to forcibly remove the rest of the valve but wanted to double check to see if that is the right move.

I did it that way for one of mine. Used a wooden dowel and a rubber mallet.

There are 2 types of PGP valves, right ?

the first time I did this on another PGP it was easy.
this time is a pain.

any tips?

Penetrating lube, like JeeperCreeper said.

I would also clean up your valve components once you get it out. It’s probably sticking because of oxidation buildup or other gunk.

I use 2 empty 12 grams. One in the tube like it should go, then another behind it so I can smack it with a hammer.

The second type of pgp valve is the cartridge, and that's a self contained unit, as shown below.

Cartridge valve pgps don’t require a valve tool. Use the double empty 12gram method creeper mentioned it will ensure you don’t mess up the chamber plug when you let the hammer down.

can I use hot water and soap to clean inside of the PGP?

Part #6 in my pictures, piece has small threads but they don’t have a purpose ?

also can someone tell me where I need o rings? I may have them all, unless I need one on part 6.

im going to clean all these parts and put back together.

many tips on how to put all parts back together ? And the Palmer seal kit will work for this valve ?

Threads on part 6 is for pulling said part with the threaded end of the valve tool. That is usually only needed when original (and unnecessary) lead seal is still installed from the factory.



Once the valve is assembled together-ish. Stand/stack them on the valve tool vertically and lower PGP body onto said valve assembly, using part 7 as the base. If you're lucky you'll get it in 1 try. Hopefully, you don't shred an o-ring(normally on part 6) in the process. Good luck!

Just adding be careful threading that nut back into the body, all the threads are brass so it's very easy to cross thread or strip. Just take your time and you will be good
