Brown spots on mag body

What are the brown spots on the body? Surface rust? What should I use to clean it up?

They're stainless steel- rust isn't an impossibility, but it takes some work.

More likely it's paint (as in house paint) rubbed off from bunkers and buildings.

Not knowing the grade of mag bodies.... 304 can and will "teastain" over time unless passivated

My original body did that a little (not quite as severe as pictured) just from 20 years of storage, not all of it climate controlled.

A little oil and rather fine steel wool removed most of it.

The mag came setup like this, definitely not a setup I would run.

I've seen it a few times. Typically happens when someone is setting up the marker and doesn't really know what they are doing so they think they are making a stock. But even that explanation seems extreme for this case.

That is like elastigirl levels of reach there

Give the body a good long soak in your favorite rust remover- I like the performance and smell of G96- and then rinse with alcohol when done.

Will look for the Rare breed next time I go in the US, it is not offered where I live in Canada, only the classic, the 101 and the Longbranch
