Picked this viper m1 project off ebay last week, ano looks nicer and glossier than I thought. Anyone know if this was an option, if many were made in this ano?

First, nice find. Vipers are really fun little shooters.
I've seen at least two other splash patterns. One is black with a red splash (longer drips, less speckled appearance than yours). Or was it red with black? Been a while. The other, which I used to own, was purple with black and orange splash, which I read somewhere was called Purple Tiger.

Those were the only two factory patterns I could find other than basic black, but being a blowback on the higher end price point it was occasionally treated to a proper custom anno job by owners. USA Performance used to even have a custom gallery on their webpage....
So yours could be a rare factory job that they just didn't list, or something done by an owner later.
Though since the lettering is nice and visible, and it does kind of match the "Green Mamba" one listed in their gallery, I do tend to think it's a factory job. But that's just a guess.
