GxG vs APP 50 round pods

Looking at buying about 4 of either

there’s also other smoke off-brand ones that come in a camou pack made for 50s on evilBay

Theyre pretty pricey so I’m curious if anyone has opinions on either of the three or if I should just stick to running my stock class stuff and my 100s for sportshot.

    thanks

I'll have to look at what type of 50 rounders I have when I get a chance. I think I have two different types. I run them with a SportShot as well.

They do hold more then the GXG style ones so they have a tendency to over fill most non modified 50 round hoppers more. You can cut capacity down by adding a layer of foam on the back side of the lid. Or “lid modifying” your 50 round hopper. APP-60 and PBDNA JoLo will except both types.

Both will work with a modified Winchester, modified APP-50, stock APP-60 and stock JOLO hopper. It really depends on how you are carrying them. If you plan on using the 5-50 get the ones at the top.

If you are just using them on a Sport Shot it really don’t matter unless your using the 5-50 to hold them.

I plan to use them in a standard pack. Thanks for the info. Using with Winchester with dna magnetic lid. As well as a sportshot if I decide to….

I’ll be sure to do a lid mod if it over fills thanks

Both of them will work. The APP are a lil more durable.

APP also has 30 round pods. I like those with 50 round hoppers.

I've been tempted to get a few more of these, I bought one ages ago but it sits in the bin. Do you have a good solution for holding a few in pouches?

Lt. head-shot as APP says on their website, they fit three in an M16 ammo pouch. Some pouches seem to fit better than others. It got me into MOLLE gear, but that was ok. I like fighting load carriers, which were really cheap (maybe still?). You alternate the middle pod front so that it all snugs together.

This also means you need a dump pouch or just a empty ammo pouch to put your empty pods in, so that you don't have to sort through them every time. If you work from one side to the other, you put the empties in the previous pouch.

The APP ones work well enough. My only gripe is mine are hard to open, to the point where the lid ring thingys on the top of the tube where the lid mounts to have loosened up. But the dots on the side make them slightly easier to hold on to IMO. Not a bad tube, but I'd still like to try the GxG ones since I like my GxG 140rd tubes.

APP uses good plastic. The glossy GxG plastic is fairly fragile, but I do have some flat black opaque pods that feel like a better material. I'd imagine the ones that come with the eBay 'beerpack' are GxG clones.

I'll second the APP 30rd pods as being good for 50rd hoppers, but you'll need to use closed top magazine pouches or something to carry them.

I use both. I like the GXGs cause they tend to be smoother to remove/replace, but the APPs are more durable. Both lids have been fine for me with the exception of one APP that likes to randomly pop open.

I have sets of both the ones Johnny has. One is branded as OpsGear and is a little bigger than the GXG pods. I usually prefer my pods to have a one piece lid, but haven’t had the OpsGear pods separate. Has happens with other pods and it sucks.

I have an old Flurry vest with two front pockets that are the perfect size for these type of pods. Two pods is usually all I need for a game running a pump with a SportShot. Picked up a 50 round harness with some gear but yet to use it in a game.

Thanks guys I went with app and ordered the foam to put under the lid to keep capacity down.

the pods come in today and were super cheap compared to everywhere else in stock
