That's honestly pretty cool. Might be the most convenient way to adjust velocity.
(Colloquially, they were known as "Dial-a-Welt". )
That's why those big Automag knobs had a setscrew "lock", same as the ANS inline regs, and so on.
I don't know the specifics of that backblock assembly- first one I've seen- but I can guess that they found out almost immediately that no field would allow it, which would understandably cut down on sales a bit.
I remember when I made the first rocking trigger, for a Shoebox Shocker, back around '00 or so, Larry Cossio himself emailed me and said it wouldn't be allowed on any field he, or most other insurance companies at the time, had policies for. (Most insurance even today still prohibits more than one shot per trigger pull, and with a rocking trigger, they consider one full trigger cycle to be fully backward and fully forward, which fires two balls.)
