    IVG/Back Block combo?

I know what it is, and how it works, but any idea who made it?

Was it supposed to be a thumb adjuster?

It is.... The thumb wheel turns an inner sleeve (you can see the threads), and the IVG rides in and out on those. It seems to function ok, but I won't know until I install it and see how it works.

That's honestly pretty cool. Might be the most convenient way to adjust velocity.

-Except most fields likely banned it. Basically, any velocity adjuster you can adjust without tools, was not allowed. I presume that rule still stands for virtually all field insurance policies today.

(Colloquially, they were known as "Dial-a-Welt". )

That's why those big Automag knobs had a setscrew "lock", same as the ANS inline regs, and so on.

I don't know the specifics of that backblock assembly- first one I've seen- but I can guess that they found out almost immediately that no field would allow it, which would understandably cut down on sales a bit.

I remember when I made the first rocking trigger, for a Shoebox Shocker, back around '00 or so, Larry Cossio himself emailed me and said it wouldn't be allowed on any field he, or most other insurance companies at the time, had policies for. (Most insurance even today still prohibits more than one shot per trigger pull, and with a rocking trigger, they consider one full trigger cycle to be fully backward and fully forward, which fires two balls.)
