    ANS X2 Regulator Urethane Seats?

My X2 has a leak down the middle of the adjuster. Pulled the piston out, removed everything within the piston, and the damn urethane seal has deteriorated. ANS doesn’t seem to sell that part or the piston assembly. Are Air America Unireg parts cross compatible and available? Is it worth chasing down parts or should I keep it as a paperweight?

I experimented with replacing the internals with AGD parts since they're the same basic design. On mine, the safety overpressure device blew out, which is also unobtainium these days. You have to replace both that assembly and the piston, since it is of a different length.

Warning: when I did this, I got the reg to seal up fine, but I still experienced pressure creep when firing. That's as far as I got. I expect a full rebuild with fresh seals might fix the issue, but never got around to it, so please understand I can't guarantee that this will fix all your problems, and you need to test it heavily and watch the output pressure before you use it in a game, if you elect to try this fix.

That said, if I understand you correctly, you might find the AGD reg seat fixes your issue by itself.

Also, if you mess with that safety overpressure, I can't guarantee that they work the same, so you have to agree to hold harmless both me and the site if you try this and something goes haywire. This is just my tinkering notes, not expert advice.

Thanks for the info. I may take a shot at making a seal with sheet of urethane or buna if I can’t find a simple replacement. If that doesn’t work, I’ll retire it.

Looking at my stash of parts, I have decided to put it up for adoption since the burst disk is still good and someone may need it. It’s also in decent shape for its age.

Those seals within the over pressure valve were such a weak design to an otherwise nice looking and functioning regulator. Poor choice of material, adding to that no replacements to speak of, not even in the Gen x2 rebuild kits stilll available on ANSgear.com ! Nothing quite tops off an old cocker build like a Gen x2 , so it really is too bad!

Here is a thought with the same caveat Axel mentioned above, that any ideas found on this Forum , you do at your own risk and no one here is held accountable: if you could figure out what threading that jam nut (too bad it is not solid) is inside the Reg Piston, you might be able to find a matching plug in that thread. Seal it up with locktite and now you just have a regular reg piston. Maybe add an external 1/8th NPT over pressure burst disk in the appropriate PSI rating to add the safety on the output side , and call it fixed?

          Thoughts ?

I could plug the piston or make a seal, but I’ll pass the buck since I don’t want to buy material or source parts. The burst disk is in good shape and the seat looks new. It’s in the Miscellaneous section now for anyone who wants it.

            Edit: Docs problem now

PM sent, Knucks. I have a ton of urethane material on hand, and have taken to making more and more "lost" seals.

In fact, I've been meaning to make a standard offer, but haven't for lack of time. Basically, if anyone has a reg that needs now-unobtainium seals, send it in and I'll make a set for you, for free, and produce a supply for others, as well.

So far, that's also included custom-molded seals like the Equalizer "figure eight", and even non-seal items like the Montneel hammer bumper. I was about to do a batch of the VM hammer O-rings, but somebody had a large run custom-made.

              Doc.

That’s an awesome offer. I have a few old WGP regs and seats that work so sending this one out isn’t a problem. Hope it serves you well Doc.

You’ll have to buy it off of Doc, I’ve washed my hands of such maniacal contrivance.

I have successfully rebuilt both the ANS LPR and HPR with AGD classic valve kits. The LPR is a bit tough to screw back together but works fine. They are essentially the same reg aside from the length of the spring pack.

I feel better now most my regs are pretty much the same now, except that CP. First sign of pissing me off, it goes straight to the Miscellaneous section.

Would a wgp ergo reg seat work? Autocockerparts has them, and they look pretty close

They’re too thick for the stack up inside the piston. I considered it but wasn’t worth my time to modify anything.
