So I was doing a little nostalgia digging and was looking at why smart parts is evil, and Tom Kaye came up, on his web page he mentions the shoebox compressor I remember that was coming out about the time that i went away for a bit and for some reason i forgot all about it till i saw that. What happened there? I remember that it was coming out that it would boost shop air to 4500 the cost was on par or less than a stand alone small 4500 compressor, granted i am not sure there were a lot of those at the time. I see that the maintenance was rather extensive, and it did require a rebuild kit quite often but it seems like it went wild in the air rifle community but not so much in the paintball community. I understand why they closed, they could not afford to compete with the Chinese compressors and their subsequent knockoffs without being made in china and once that happens then you might as well give them the product because yours is going to be knocked off. Was there a reason for paintball not using it or was it one that was only used sparingly? To kind of answer my own question i would imagine the fact that it requires a compressor and an outlet made it less desirable for woods ball, it likely did not fill fast enough for a field, and unless you worked on tanks and a good amount of markers, there was no reason to buy a tiny 4500 compressor. Does anyone here have one that they might want to trade for something or cash?

It was too expensive. That was really it in a nutshell.
Today, with virtually all fields having compressed air, and tank prices being generally pretty low, if yo want to shoot at home, you just top up a couple tanks at the end of the day and use those at home.
Along with that, not everybody already had a shop compressor- add even a cheap Home Depot unit and a couple fittings, and suddenly you're looking at a cool grand just to fill your tanks. (And the compressor makes it noisier.)
When the cheap Chinese ones hit the stores at less than half the cost, that was the last nail in the coffin.
I have one and it's very handy. My shop compressor is in an insulated room, so the noise is minimal, and it's great to have full-power air on hand (rather than cold CO2 or half-empty SCUBA) but yeah, I can see that it's not ideal for every player.

I owned 2 for awhile. I probably ranmine more than most people. Owned the 3k model then the fast10 or whatever the next one was. I was wearing through bushings because i ran it so much. I ended up getting a mch-6 in a deal and have been running with that since. works for what i need. fills pretty fast. got it in a trade with a dead motor replaced it with a 220 hvac motor and im off to the races.BeardedWorks.com (Your Inception Designs and Shocktech Dealer)
