not trying to be too pessimistic, i love paintball, i just still resent that era of pushing the sport to a more expensive, intense format.
Haha yeah man I just remember playing on Hyperball was the worst at 15+bps. Just a constant spray of shell and paint coming In through the cracks between the tubes. Rentals cowering behind tubes getting pummeled and then getting yelled at by the ref for trying to shoot out of those cracks because that’s all they could think to do.

There were a couple of long threads concerning this "over there"...

The biggest issue I see with the cap is that there are at least a couple of modern mech makes (particularly the Shocker and a couple of PE blends) that have mods that readily allow them to outshoot it. We have been having a hard time making a new player friendly tourney format that people will actually play when you suggest they can't use their fancy new mech....The field owner and myself are at odds on it to a degree that I personally likely won't attempt to plan one again after my next one in Oct.

anyhow- if Dye can't flash the board, you might be able to find a Tadao board. They don't have the lower settings originally, but you can mail the board in and get it flashed to include the lower BPS.
Tadao actually just stopped flashing boards

Are they banning the deadly wind valve/ bang switch or just like all all the PE and CVO guns?

Check the board for the "failure" setting, many default to 10bps. This is basically turning all the board functions to off. One of my board if you turn off eyes and turn on tourney lock it'll default to 10 bps, like if there was an eye failure.

The other option is by forcing people to use basic hoppers, or force really slow settings for electronic ones, albeit it is not a great way of doing things.

What has been suggested by the owner is trying to float a pump and blowback only, shaker hopper format.

His complaint is that even if we limit the electros that can be, to 8 or 10 that "these certain markers" that are mechanical, can outshoot that. And they can. There are now quite a few videos of it happening. I love paintball, love to play, but am not going to take something that has been working well and tell half the players supporting it that they can no longer use their new marker. I wish him well with it.

It seems like a better option would be to slowly upgrade the rental fleet to Emeks with PALs or even to A5s with the cyclone feed. Spyder clones with Uncovered steel tanks and vl200s are really rough to use

I ran a small paintball club about 10 years ago basically when the market for 2nd/3rd? generation gear was super low I build the setups my old buddies always wanted in HS then we’d go play rec ball. Mostly just have fun and sneak fun flask shots in the parking lot.
Every once and awhile some punks would push it too hard and well usually when they would get to twibby on the young kids. A trio of ult X-valved mags, original BL Defiant and a couple of tuned cockers with a group that has worked together off and in for years... but yeah usually just took a couple of games till people got civil. all that agro stuff gets in the way of day day drinking and beef jerky.

On a side note, when playing regular tourneys are you required to play with the specified ramp modes, or can you have something with limits under that mode. ie if the tournament was using a 12.5 bps ramp mode, would I be allowed to set it to a 10 or 11 bps ramp mode instead? Or a semi auto mode with a cap under the ramp Mode's limit?

The 12.5 or 10.2 or whatever ROF cap is just that; a cap. You don't HAVE to have it set that high if you can't/don't want to. A lot of players will set it just slightly lower so there's absolutely no risk of getting a penalty.

I don't even use ramping. My CS1 is always set to semi auto. As long as the ROF doesn't go above the cap, no one cares.

Yeah they only fire as fast as you pull them

Well, we're talking specifically about tournaments, so overshooting rentals is not really an issue.

The currently produced Dye Rize Maxxed markers use the UL board, and the new versions have a 10 BPS and 5.5 BPS to be legal in almost any current event. The issue you will run into is they use wired eyes as opposed to the ribbon eyes most likely in your PM8. You'll have to buy new eyes that are compatible as well, but everything should drop in and get you up to date. I would be sure to call DYE support and be sure you are getting the latest version of the UL board that is 5.5 capable, as a lot of the online stores will have old stock of the old flashes that cannot be distinguished. I put one in my UL framed PM7 just to get a legal 10.0 ramp, since all the old aftermarket boards I had used OLD Millenium ramping rules that weren't correct even when capped at 10
