Cocker front thread "repair" ... Currently 1/8npt ...

    Hello y'all,

I finally got all the major parts for my cocker build, and dug through my bins for small parts.

Found my stash of pre-2K banjo bolts πŸ₯³
But a quick test fit felt a bit wired on the body ...
After further investigation and measurements/testing I figured out it has been re-threaded to 1/8npt.

I'm not 100% where to go from here ...
I could convert it to 2K spec (I have a tap and die for it) but I'm not sure how involved it is ... Is it just the thread or is there more to it?

    any other ideas?

    Thanks,
    X

Is it going cocker or pump?

Its a cool ano with a matching front block so id like to keep it semi (and i have a cool cocker pump already πŸ˜…)

Wait, the front block threads are 1/8 NPT?

No... but 1/8"npt is also 3/8"-27 if you want straight threads vs. the tapered pipe threading, which is fairly close to 3/8"-24, aka pre2k-spec front banjo threads.

Oh... That makes sense. I did not know that. Thanks!

1/8 npt isn't to far off from 3/8-24... It basically just has a taper. It should grab

I would tap the 3/8-24 into the body deeper and make a longer banjo bolt
or Drill and tap to 2k specs which is 9/16-24 and use a 2k banjo bolt and front block

I like the longer banjo idea, but converting to 2K spect has me buying less tooling πŸ˜…
Any way to convert the front block too (the ano matched)?

XEMON you can absolutely convert the front block to 2k specs. Hole has to be opened up to 9/16" then both sides spotfaced for the oring to sit. If you don't have a mill you can do all the work in a lathe with a four jaw chuck

        That seam very doable.
My lathe isn't quite big enough to fully mount the front block, but I can definitely do the front block on there ...

What's the print size on there?

I would drill and tap it 3/4-20

If you have a few banjo bolts to spare I would try running a 3/8-27 (1/8 npt) die over a banjo bolt. It should work and if it doesn’t at least you didn’t mess up your aluminum body.

honestly i would just convert it to 2k spec and be done with it. If you want to send it out i can take care of it. I am sure someone on the west coast could do it too.

I may take you up on that πŸ‘

Someone helicoid the frame screw to absurd sizes, so I was gonna make custom screw to look a bit cleaner on there too, but I got injured to the point of not being able to use a machine tool for quite a while so I'm not sure when I'll be able to pick this back up πŸ˜’
