    Automag loosing FPS

    I recently purchased my first Automag with a Classic valve and lvl7 bolt. I've noticed something odd since I started playing with it. Before playing I set it to roughly the field FPS limit and then after a couple games I check it again and its shooting 240-230's. I crank the knob on the back of the valve a half turn or so and its back up to the 270's. We all know paint overall isn't great these days but it seems to be something with the gun. I'm running a Ninja ProV2 reg set just over 800psi which has been serviced. I always run a slight overbore but nothing excessive and the FPS groupings are consistent when set. Any ideas on what is causing the drop? I haven't rebuilt anything since getting it in my hands, but I think that is the next logical step.

    I would start by looking at the reg portion of the valve.
    look if the other side of the reg seat is in good condition, if yes flip it. Remove the reg piston, clean and oil it well.
    See from there if it solve the issue.

    Springpack could be worn out, or the adjuster is backing out (not that likely).

    Classic valves are old - I think we forget that on here sometimes - and the springpacks are starting to show their age for a lot of valves.

      spring packs are getting pretty limited. AGD is completly out.

      superman Well if that is my problem, I might as well purchase an X-Valve. We'll see how it does tomorrow at the field.

        I put a couple drops of oil in the ASA before airing it up. Maybe I'll put in a little more next time.

      Even though it is unlikely that the adjuster is backing out, it isn't out of the question. I've seen it, and it really puzzled me until I figured it out. From your description it does sound like it could be the culprit.

      Since it is both the easiest and cheapest fix, if I were in your clothes, I would rule that one out first.

        I agree. Mark the back with a Milwaukee paint pen. The will tell you if there is rotation.

      I was curious if anyone knew source for the spring packs, or at least a spec of the spring pack for future reference.

      Did you try tunaman for the spring pack? I think I got one from him somewhat recently.

        When cleaning the reg piston, be sure and clean the inside of the reg. The wall can build up a ring of crud that creates an inconsistent sticking point.

          Jordan Called it, the velocity adjuster was backing out. Would anyone know the thread/screw size needed for it?

            You can get a tourney lock. That will stop it from moving

            You can also add a little Loktite. Just be careful. If you add too much, you might strip the hex hole when trying to back it out.
