    “settling” valve?

read once somewhere on here its a good idea to leave a marker aired up for 10 minutes after installing a new valve…

i know it wouldnt hurt it to do so butnis there actually any point?

fbm teardrop with ccm lower tube

    thanks guys

Not that I've ever heard of. Break in should accomplish that much better I would think

underlying theory seems to be it helps valve seat form to valve face. most materials used for seal are soft enough to seal right away though.

i do it because sometimes there are tiny micro leaks that can't be heard, and not every junction is available for spray on leak detection. i leave a new build gassed up for a few hours and look for any changes in pressure. i use a high precsion gauge mounted to a tank extender, paintball gauges are basically junk.

It won’t hurt anything but not something that I would say needs to be done. The same thing can be accomplished just by using the marker. Checking for leak down isn’t a bad thing like Shaftski said if you have the tools. But most slight leaks seal up if you just cycle the marker a bit.

My new Sterling had a slight valve leak but after a few 12g and cycling it a few times the valve sealed up perfectly. It’s got a super low serial number so it’s probably dry and been sitting a long time. But freshly built with new parts should seal right up as long as you got the right springs.

Tbh I don't see what practical difference 10 minutes of airing up would make for something that will see 100s of hours of pressure or how it would matter when it's done (ie 10 minutes after install vs 10 minutes prior to a game). Put some oil on the seal if you're worried about micro leaks.

I think really you give a new leaky valve about 10 minutes under pressure to stop leaking. If it stops after a while, you have hope it will break in to normal sealing.

Really depends on the valve material, like Jordan said. I've tried to set a valve at higher than operating pressure, only to have it go back to leaking.

so its the best i can do… would like to show up and play rather than tinker. its a for fun tournament
