    Brass brazing

It will probably be a minute but I'm looking to basically put together a custom pgp. I'll need to braze a new lower tube on the body I have but I've never done any brass brazing before.

That said I don't think it's anything I can't handle, more wondering about the equipment side. I have experience with all forms of welding and jewelry soldering but, I don't have an oxy torch. I've seen brass brazing can be done with propane torch which I do have but I'm wondering if I use the same brazing rods or do I need something different for the lower temperature?

That said. I use silver silver, low temp jewelry with a 1500W heat gun. It takes a while, but it’s almost impossible burn the solder.

    Don't braze, use solder.

I use silver solder from the plumbing section of the hardware store and acid flux, and MAPP gas.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: β€œI shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

β€œBut Lord,” asked Gabriel, β€œIs this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, β€œJust wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

This is also what I use. The mapp works way faster than propane. I use snips to cut up the chunky solder into smaller bits. Saves on post attachment clean up.

I like this plan as I have most of it already

      brazing unnecessary.

use silver solder, NOT silver bearing, and a good flux.

propane torch is enough heat to get the job done, you only need about 450-500 degrees for a good solder to flow well.

use the thinnest solder diameter you can get your hands on. hardware store stuff is so thick in diameter it actually makes a clean joint way harder to do. i use .030 diameter and it flows like water

I'll have to check but I might have some solder from my jewelry days.

You want silver solder for pipes. It's strong enough, and you get it with Flux at the hardware store. The Flux is important. Don't use too much, as it will melt and run everywhere. A Mapp torch is reccomended, but a propane will work, just takes longer. Also need a good steel wire to tie your parts together to solder, something that can stand the heat. Check 4x that everything is straight before you start soldering. And lastly post all progress pics here, or shens.

I use the thick stuff, no mess. This is completely untouched. It's 100% in the Flux. You don't need that much. I've done strength tests, too. The lead free silver solder from the hardware store holds up better than lower temp solders.

Do you have a name or picture for that solder? If I can I would rather order it. Young kids at home make it difficult to just drop down to the hardware store whenever.

That flux does clean up relatively easy if you make a mess, but like I said, just a dab will do. If the flux runs, you solder will follow
