    TiPX 7-Round OEM Magazines

What's the trick to getting the balls to stay in these magazines?

    Here's some background.

2 magazines came with the marker. One is OK. Paintballs stay in when loaded, but a light shake or bump causes 1 or 2 to come out. The other is HORRIBLE. The 7th paintball won't even stay loaded; it pops out.

I took both magazines apart. The OK one had a stiff/blue detent spring. The horrible one had a silver/light detent spring. Both had the same follower spring (spring within the follower, not the main magazine spring.

I contacted Tippmann about the issue. They sent me a new magazine, which I'll call a GOOD one. It has a blue/stiff detent spring, and I noticed it has a lighter follower spring than the 2 that came with the marker.

With the 3 magazines I now have, I can get OK results out of all of them if I put stiff detent springs with stiff follower springs and light detent springs with light follower springs, but I'd rather have all 3 like the one good one Tippmann sent me - blue/stiff detent spring, light follower spring.

Am I missing something, or should I just ask Tippmann to send me the springs and followers I'd like?

    Thanks.

Yea….the TiPX mags don’t hold the balls in great, just par for the course. The Zeta mags do a lot better, but they’re pricy

I think Rainmaker makes a 3D printed “cap” to put on them to retain the paintballs. You have to remove them
when you load the mag into the marker

I used to keep the spring locked when I had mine. Just had to remember to load the mag then release the spring.

      Thanks for the response.

I’ve got 6 Zetamags arriving today. My intent was to use those when running the TiPX as primary, but I’d still like to use the 7-round mags when the TiPX is a sidearm to an EMF100 primary.

The 3rd gen Zetamags come with 1 dust cover, but I was curious if the paintballs would come out the uncovered end when in a vest. Guess I’ll find out this afternoon. I’ll check into caps if necessary.

It seems Planet Eclipse did it right on the CF20 mags (EDIT: see correction in comments) with the fully closing shutter door on top, which doubles as a detent when in the partially open position.

I’ll see what Tippmann has to say and if they’ll send me parts. When I originally contacted them, I only knew about the different detent spring stiffnesses. It was the magazine they sent me that had the lighter follower spring (and stiff detent spring). I wonder if they know about the various springs and that the best combination is stiff detent, light follower.

The shutter on the cf20 mags originally were a dye idea from their mags

Thanks for the correction. Important to give credit where it’s due.

Tippmann is sending me 2 new mags with stiff detent and light follower springs. They didn’t elaborate on the various spring combinations.

I've got a bunch of TIPX mags but don't use them often. Prefer Zeta mags, and even those rarely get used. Haven't experienced the problem with balls popping out. I have fazmag mag holds, which might help keep the balls in!?

Everything is ready to go for Sunday. My wife walked into the man cave while I was setting up my chest rig for the two aforementioned setups. She said, “Uh, you’re becoming quite the nerd.” Meh, sticks and stones.

I’ve also got extra caps and a mag holder queued up at work to 3D print.
