Reflex sights?

I see mention of them on here occasionally... what are you guys using, and how are they? Is it more of a FS thing, or does roundball benefit from them too?

I have used on and off since the early 90s Red Dot sights (Reflex Sights) depending on the venue and game. They can be useful but are far from game changing. In particular I like to have one on my marker when I was playing Scenarios with a lot of buildings (i.e. MOUT sites). They are very useful, with good paint, and secure shooting point to walk your shots through small openings. In woods ball or rec ball they are not very useful IMO and I do not mount or do not turn on. I am more of a snap shooter even at range so muscle memory and experience are way more important than actual sites.

I have an Old ADCO Mirage from the early 90s that is in my kit (works great by the way and is awesome on battery life) and that is the go to for my Pyre or Sniper II. I also have a cheap Pinty Reflex Site off Amazon that has seen time on an anti-squirrel airsoft rifle and has been used on my Duckslide that serves though is not mounted right now but is in my bag if I become inclined to use it.

As seasoned as you are. I don't think you will find an advantage with the addition of one.

ive found the classic red dots dont work out as I hold paintball guns so far away from my face that the cross hair is huge.

A fiber dot like an armson can help with quick sighting on target, but if you can already pull your shooter up and get a good shot without thinking much of it, you will probably struggle to train yourself to use the armson.

I'm making the switch to SC pistol play after years of OC semi (occasionally pump) and mostly wondering if it could help improve on the transition - I find not having a tank to brace against as a stock can make those first shots count a challenge.

The transfer back to stock class pistol with my Duckslide is why I had one on my Duckslide for a while. Takes a little getting used to pointing/aiming a stock class pistol after playing most of my time with full size pumps. With that said once muscle memory got going I took it off and don't use anymore for my Duckslide.

Armson or Dye Izon sights have a cool OG factor but not sure they will provide any kind of advantage

I have never found that any form of sight on a paintball marker make a positive difference. Even with FSR iron sights feel a lot of more natural to me.

If you a dedicated FSR shooter with a nicely dialed in setup and sight I'm sure it could make an appreciable difference at long range, but I haven't had any issues shooting at a distance with just iron sights and I'm not patient enough to sit still in the woods for a long time anyway.

Not a big fan of FS, tbh... been on the very painful receiving end too many times to justify using them myself.

(Throat shots seem to hurt more with First Strikes.)

Just curious to see what/why people were using 'em. I had a feeling it was a cosplay thing but didn't want to write them off without a good reason.

I put one on my Ion rifle before, and took it right back off after a day of play where I didn't hit a damn thing all day. I found the "Feel the force, Luke" method far more accurate, and satisfying.

SC pistols are pretty easy to learn without sights. It's all about muscle memory. Most of my shots are reactive, since I definitely use pistols for the added mobility of a super light setup. Just hit the target range, you will see that you don't need the sight. It's just something else to get shot and broken.

I like them. The ones you get at a paintball store will be fine, no need to get anything real steel rated. Tasco is a pretty good quality for the price. Something small like an RMR style would probably be ideal for a pistol. You may also want to invest in a lense protector depending on what kind of money your going to put into it.

I think it depends on if you actually aim your shots. Aiming with a dot (reflex) sight or an occluded-eye sight will be significantly more repeatable than looking down the length of a tube (or gun body). However, you still have to know your hold over and under because the sight will only be on target at your sighting distance, and it doesn't account for windage.

In practice, I found it great for a head-sized target closer than 75ft, meaning that I could reliably get a first shot head shot if given the opportunity to aim.

Basically a red dot that uses the reflection of a fiber optic. They're meant for a shotgun barrel rib but may work on tall dovetail rails.

Or there's turkey style sights.

I use a 12 Gauge Shotgun Fiber Optic Front Sight and a rail on the back of my First Strike Phantom. I did pick up a Dye IZON site I want to try but I need to find a mini dove tail rail that the dye site will clamp on to. I’m pretty sure I have one somewhere in a parts bin but finding it will take some luck.

I pretty much point shoot everything regardless. Takes a bit to get use to the trajectory of FS they shoot super flat. I’m still learning how to aim this thing at longer ranges it’s very accurate with FS rounds.

Regular paintballs I just look down the outside edge. Trying to focus on a sight takes to long I think. If I can’t point shoot my shot I get closer till I can.

But this is my “long gun” First Strike bolt action Phantom it’s a lot of fun to shoot. I have made some wild shots with it. I just got the Vert valve setup I’m excited to see if the HPA constancy makes it even more accurate. 9ci should be good for 150 shots.

No issues keeping the sight from rotating? Ideally it's supposed to index again a front sight bead.

It’s movable but stays put I just center it after I remove the barrel. I put it in some warm water and stretched it over the barrel so it’s on there pretty tight. Hasn’t fell off and only moves sometimes when I put the barrel bag on. I could probably put a thin piece of double side tape on it if it ever becomes a problem. It works just fine as is.

WTH? That thing is sick! The hi-viz shotgun sights are great. Used to run them on painters and hurricanes.

Even after playing for 28 years I've never been particularly good at shooting by aiming down the barrel so I keep various sights on my pumps and magfed stuff. I'm equally happy with electronic red-dots (Westlake was a reliable and cheap brand on eBay for a while) and Armson-style OEGs. I've got a pair of Armsons and a 32 Degrees Magnum that I like very much. Had an original DYE iZon that was roundly inferior dot was way too dim. With great difficulty I took it apart and improved it by changing the position of the aperture. I wish I had kept pictures of what I did but they were lost when the old MCB was wiped.

I do wish more guns with vertical feednecks had canted diagonal sights like the Rainmaker and Tac-One. I've added these to a couple of my semi-autos.

What's going on with that 12-gram adapter?
Are all 3 cartridges pierced and engaged at once?

It's a 12g adapter for the BB rifle that's been adapted for paintball use. Charges all 3 at the same time. ASA remote line adapter was tapped to match the threads on the 12g piercer. They use to be reasonable when you could get them. I posted it on Book Face a 5-6 years ago and people purchased all of the stock in like 1hr so it went from a useless $50 part people don't use and would gave away. To a $179 piece you can no longer get. I converted my BB rifle like the one above and it no longer uses co2. So I converted mine for paintball use. Works great for outlaw play and acts as a mini tank.

I used an ADCO dot sight on a Sterling for a bit. Inside 75 feet, it would very consistently hit exactly where the little dot was, so I'd line up on the edge of a bunker for a speedball game if I knew someone was about to come out.

Today's paint, I don't know that it's worth the extra time to sight in, but back then, it was the difference between catching the bunker and catching an elbow for my mediocre muscle memory.
