Getting smaller set screw out of benchmark frame

As some of you know I'm wanting to put brass tipped set screws in my benchmark cocker frame, my problem is that I cant get the smaller of the 2 set screws out, when it reaches the top or bottom of the threads it gets really tight and I don't want to damage it and loose that adjustment, is there something I should know or am I just an idiot 😂

I am guessing you are referring to the rear one? screw it towards the top of the frame with everything removed until it comes out.

I did, it got tight and I didn't want to strip it, maybe there's dirt in the top threads or something

likely dirt/rust/paint/loctite in threads, or the screws threads are 'chewed up' in that spot. try to get a look at as much as u can with a flashlight. have you tried some penetrating oil? clean and brush out as much as u can

If Worr's suggestions do not work, boiling the frame in water for 10-15 min will help break up Loctite. Take every step possible to free the screw if you feel it is close to stripping. Best of luck!

Thank you everyone I got it out, should I put a little loctite on them to keep them from moving or will they be fine as is

I often will drip one drop of blue on and let them harden overnight. It wont set up like normal unless its under pressure so you're more of less adding a slight layer of goop to keep tension on the threads. They never get loose in normal use and thread right back out for the next round of tinkering.

i usually put just a small dab of blue loctite on them so they hold adjustment

I’ve always used purple, but blue should work fine too

Loctite 222 - low strength. Great for small screws like set screws.
