Ok so I have a Pro Carbine and it worked like a charm now not so much. It started venting like crazy and doing the rapid action like when a tank runs out and now it will not do jack squat. I changed all the O rings in it and zero. Is the main valve dead ?

wont do squat as in the hammer slams forward and nothing happens?
does it sound like its hitting the pin when it goes forward?
with it degassed and you put pressure on the cocking knob towards the barrel, you you feel any springy-ness?
when you changed the o-rings did you pull out the valve?
was everything where it was supposed to be? -
When gassed up it will shot forward and contact the pin but not even a bang out the barrel. I am baffled I have yet to pull the valve apartComment

The pro carbine is almost 30 years old. It is very much possible that the seals in the valve are dried out and crumbling.Comment

The first problem sounds like a blown valve o ring or cup seal but the second problem sounds like you may have assembled it wrong. Backward detent or maybe the shock absorber o ring is in front of the hammer now. Something is keeping the valve from opening altogether.
The valve leak might have corrected itself if you liked it or maybe a fresh air tank at full PSI got it to seal back up. That old, old Tippmann rubber can have nine livesComment

Can you manually shove the cocking knob forward against the vale pin and get the valve to vent? If not then the hammer or bolt or linkage arm is likely jammed on something.Comment

I wrestled with the ring in the valve body and could not get that sucker out. I am putting my hope that it’s inside the valve and just ordered a complete valve body assembly to replace this one.Comment

I'd expect it to be the urethane orings on the valve seat and plug, the cup seal is almost always fine unless it's an ex rental. If you use a dowel to depress the brass plug and put a toothpick in the air intake hole to hold it back it's much easier to get the ring off. Then replace with a 1/2" snap ring

Toestr thanks I did have it in the vise and the plug depressed but man that ring is really in there. I said a few choice words and then said F&*K it and saw a new old stock Valve assembly on EBay and bought it.

Yeah the old flat machine springs sometimes don’t want to budge even if your technique is good. I’ve used a dremel attachment to cut them out before, maybe nicking the valve body in the process and still using it :-) Once it’s out you can use and internal snap ring and then snap ring pliers make future work easyOriginally posted by NONOBLITUS View PostComment

Old Tippmanns didn’t use snap rings they used a pain in the butt flat machine spring that wasn’t supposed to be user serviceable. As someone stated above, you can remove the airline, depress the valve pin, shove a toothpick in the airline port to hold the spring tension, and then try and work it out. I’ve had the best luck getting a utility blade knife (angled box cutter razor blade) under the edge of the flat spring and then working it out.
