Thanks everyone for your sage advice and input. One thing no one brought up and that I'm actually quite surprised by is, well, the element of surprise on the field. Is no one concerned about their farting pump giving away their position?

Makes you just make your shot count more. Don't have to worry about them figuring out where you are if you just hit them with the first shot

If you want a quiet pump Jay, I'd get the new Nova balanced valve and a delrin hammer and springs from Angry Antle. My Orracle is super quiet, consistent and good on air with that setup.

Nope, it really is only apparent to you or someone right next to you. If you are shooting the normal sound of the ball leaving the barrel is many magnitudes louder then any farting.

I personally love a marker that farts. It's a silly game, so it just adds to it for me.

Put up a video of it farting. This thing better sound like KingAssRipper if you are gonna complain this much about it! XD

nope they are already dead from the first shot and the rest are running in fear from the vicious quacks.

Years back we had an old Sniper II come through the shop that had zero, zilch, nada, absolutely no fart to the shot at all. This is especially surprising since it was an older sheridan style springing setup, not the later nelson type springs found on modern Snipers.

The way this was done was kind of ingenious. In addition to the fairly stiff sheridan style mainspring and valve spring, there was a third spring between the back block and end of the cocking rod. Basically replaced the rubber bumper on the cocking rod. This made the mainspring effectively lighter, but also changed the oscillation point of the hammer.

You see, when you get a farty shot it's the hammer bouncing between the valve pin and the main spring. Hammer hits valve, which springs close pushing hammer back, into mainspring which pushes it forward, so it hits the valve again and the whole thing repeats. With the third spring over the cocking rod it would bounce back and forth a bit as it usual, but behind the valve a bit, between the mainspring pushing it forward and the cocking rod spring pushing it back.

No idea what type of spring, or how long, or how strong, or how much he had to adjust the cocking rod length. Just a surprise pre-internet mod on an old gun. Hit up your local hardware store for some smaller diameter springs and experiment.

funny you say that, my CCM ICS bushing broke and I used a spring to continue to play.

For what it's worth my sniper 2 got named quackers because of the sound it made. 20 years later I honestly am not sure I really want to even mess with springs to "fix" it as the sound is a solid part of its personality (and back int eh day the thing was +/- 0 FPS over the chrono on a good day, legitimately). Unique enough of a sound that teammates could figure out where I was on the other side of the field with just one shot.

That being said I did find that when I rebuilt mine and had the pressure up a bit above the sweet spot it "fixed" the sound... which was how I knew my reg was not set right haha
