Why does the Shocktech Gunfighter frame have a huge threaded hole?

Ok so I was looking at my frame and I am really curious and confused. Why is there a very large threaded hole in the frame?

Obviously to have that machining step there needs to be a purpose since its two separate tools and has to be programed in... but for the life of me I cannot see a practical use in the finished product.

Maybe it's just there for part holding during manufacturing but I am not aware of any other frame that does that (or at least leaves it in).

Possibly for machining purposes but it could be a racking hole for anodizing. That way the part can be oriented in a way to ensure even application or prevent the anodizer from hooking parts and causing ugly spots

I guess the coarse thread does really fit with that too being aluminum. At first I was thinking ?why not use other holes that would be cut out in an earlier process" but I guess they are too small or the threads are too fine. kinda seems weird to leave it but I guess there may not be a great wya to fixture it again to mill that out. and also probably leaves a nice extra bit of support for anyone crazy enough to dive with an expensive ass cocker.

I spoke to the designer awhile back and had the same question. He said it’s actually a die for cutting threads into baby carrots. It’s the only way his gearhead daughter would eat them.

Frankly in 2024, just as logical of an answer as anything else haha.
