    Cp on/off disassembly

Trying to tear down a cp Asa for anno and wonder how the brass screw is removed from the knob and body? I assume the knob is either threaded with lock tite or press fit?

    Thanks

Threaded. Look into the ASA from the back, typically there is a hex head on the back side. You might have to mount the ASA to something to get enough leverage on the screw, could always use heat otherwise.

Installing them back on is a little more difficult since you don't have anything to grab on the knob without risking the anno. I'm pretty sure I used something like a rubber pot holder to give my hand some extra grip, used all the loc tight I had and mounted my wrench in a vice. So far so good, it hasn't come off in the 7 or so years since that anno

Thanks that’s kinda what I was thinking. Need to find some way to clamp it without damaging anything.

A more general anno question. I know steel won’t take anno but will it hurt anything if some goes into the bath? There are two steel body pins that I believe are pressed in. I would rather not touch them if possible.

There’s also two steel ball bearings in the rail I use that are peened in place. Again I’d prefer not to remove them if possible.

KMDPB maybe you can help with these questions.

My understanding is it's the stripping process that needs all the steel out not the anodizing itself. I'm no expert though

What are you trying to anno? I can't think of a body that has 2 pins or a rail that uses ball bearings

I’m looking to get my nerve annoed and it has two steel pins for the bolt carriage retention.

Then the NDz rail has ball bearings that push into the Asa to secure it.

In my experience brass can go through the process without any problem. Steel on the other hand will get extremely oxidized/ rusty in the process. And it may also contaminate the bath although I've never had the contamination problem myself. I would try to remove any steel if possible. If impossible to remove you can coat all steel with rtv silicone to prevent it from coming in contact with the sulfuric acid.

Thanks I’ll reach out to the annodizer and see what he’d be comfortable with.

i think they are still around, if you reach out, they might at least be able to give you the specs for what you need

I thought they were just an off the shelf screw?
