It says 6v on the noid but would it be safe to operate it with a 7.4v battery or will it fry the motor?

Use a voltage regulator, you'll probably cook the noid if you run it at a higher voltage than it's rated for.

In my experience you will not damage the solenoid energizing it at your battery voltage. The voltage and wattage ratings for solenoids are for continuous use, since you will be energizing the coil for only around 4ms (sear) or 45ms (cocking) at a time ultimately the total charge and resulting temperature rise will be minimal.
I have run my shocker sport solenoids at 9 volts for decades, while they are only rated for 5 volts per the K3H documentation. Never had an issue. Nearly every person who converted their shocker to 9v battery has been doing the same.
Take my experience with a grain of salt but figured I’d share.Comment
