Need advice, got a dud barrel from Freak?

I sent a brand new, completely fresh Freak barrel that takes XL inserts out for anno. Just got it back recently and realized that the inner diameter on the barrel is too small to fit an insert. I bought the barrel brand new directly from GOG.

I took a look inside and it almost looks like they just completely missed a few passes on the lathe or something. This is the case for the entire length of the insert.

I haven't had any luck getting a hold of Freak / GOG to see if they can help at all.

I'm a bit annoyed at this point because best case scenario, they give me a refund and a free barrel, but that might not even cover the cost of sending 1 barrel out for anno. Then I'm also waiting another 6 weeks for turn around on anno plus shipping costs.

Any advice? Should I keep trying to annoy GOG? Should I send it off to BMC Fabrication or another machinist on MCB to get this fixed? The inner diameter is too small on both the the barrel back AND tip it seems...

Did inserts fit prior to the re-ano? I've heard of ano layers being just thick enough to cause insert issues.

I wish I knew, didn't think to check. For what it's worth, the other barrel I got back from anno is completely fine. Same barrel, same anodizer.

Good point though, maybe it was the anno. Let me check my other barrel.

Okay it's definitely not the anno. I'll see if I can get a good picture of my two barrels side by side.

Yeah you can see in these pictures that the silver barrel has a significant "step up" just past where the AC threads end.

The other barrel (bronze) is my good one and it's uniform inner diameter all the way from the very back of the barrel to where the insert sits.

Yeah that looks like a factory fuck up right there. Unfortunately I think like you surmised you are basically in a position where you're going to be out some extra money cause any solution is going to cost you. I would harass the company for some kind of kick back, but I doubt GOG is known for their stellar CS.

Yeah I'll definitely continue to bug GOG. Thinking my cheapest option is to send it to someone to fix. Based on what I've seen barrels seem to be BMC's thing, but I'm sure there's a lot of other machinist out there that could help out.

I agree with getting BMC to fix it. Would be the quickest option, especially since it is anodized already.

Not sure if it's the same company, but I've tried to get ahold of Shocker Paintball (which is GOG in some fashion) multiple times and through multiple means and can't get any replied at all. I'm trying to get a replacement for a recalled part for a Shocker RSX.

Reached a nice conclusion on this one.

The folks at Freak were really cool about this and gave me several options to get it sorted out.

Ruckus also offered to anno a new barrel for me basically at the cost of shipping, so I ended up having Freak send me a new barrel for free.

Kudos to the people at Freak and Ruckus for the help. I was really stressing that this would end up being more of a pain, but it's been pretty easy to deal with.

And I still can't get a response back from GoG/Shocker in regards to getting a replacement part for a recalled RSX even after several emails.
