What are the most common paint sizes today?

    Hey everyone,

I haven't played in years. I have an old Carter with a Sanchez Machine barrel, and the only size insert I have right now is .686, which even a few years ago was way too big for most paint.

Sanchez Machine has some in stock finally! If you were to pick say, the 4 best sizes for modern paint, what would they be?

    Thanks! Picture for dramatic effect....

The ones I've been playing with at my field have bee .684 and smaller.

      I'm not sure what's available on the sanchez website, but with today's paint I'd get a .675, .680, .682, .684

Used .675 last weekend. I think the largest I've used for a pump in the last five years was .684.

There's no way to really know the actual size, other than too small and unround

Until recently, I relied on 0.684 barrels with Wedgits to accommodate the variety of paint sizes. Now that I wish PPS were still in business, I would have them make a 0.680 with Wedgits because I have consistently been getting sub-0.680 paint over the last year or so.

I use .675 mostly but sometimes .680 for my cockers. Haven't needed the .685 since getting back into the game a few years ago.

Not only is the paint small these days, it is also severely out of round. Like, .660 one way and .690 the other. So I'll run into situations where it seems like the .680 is working but then I'll get several roll outs and need to switch to the .675. Very frustrating. So err on the side of small when choosing inserts.

I've been consistently at 682 and 680 for the last few years. But part of it depends on your location, weather, etc.

Local field is FPO and sold GI Sportz "custom" up to 2 yrs ago (last time i went). Still have some poured loose in a shoebox, and 2 unopened bags.

Been shooting the loose stuff in the backyard for the past couple weeks, the tightest bore used being a .677 freak insert. No rollouts or breaks.

Back when it was fresh, I was using a .680 Stella.

I don't know how precise the size is on either control bore.

I can count on one hand the number of times in the past 12 years that I have sized a ball larger than 685.

I've had some G.I. Custom roll out past a .676 LAPCO bore sizer before. I recently bought an insert back for my Stella barrel and got .675 and .680 PWR inserts. If the .680 proves to be too small I'll just switch to a .685 barrel that I keep in the same case.

I have pretty good luck with a .681 but I would get any of the smaller sizes you can snag. That’s a sweet Carter

Last year at PNL I was running a .689 insert but this year it was .676 and it was the same brand IIRC

He actually didn't have the Carter backs up on the site when I posted this. So far he only has .680, .682, .684 I was hoping he'd have .675 at least.
After waiting 10 years for barrel backs I was ready to order all of them!
