    50lb CO2 tank costs

Hoping some of you have some insight here.

Recently acquired a couple of CO2 fill stations, the good ones, at first I didn't think much of it it's not like any field around me uses CO2 any more but then I was wondering who would fill a 20oz tank and I'm not actually sure. So, since I have these nice fill stations, maybe I can start filling the local area.

So I'm wondering about costs, would it be smart to rent a 50lb tank first and see where it goes? Does anyone have experience with renting/filling a 50lb tank and the costs of doing that?

DocsMachine I know you use the co2

I've worked at fields using 50lb tanks before.
You'll want to get the tanks that are siphon tube setup.
A way to save your CO2 and maximize your tank output is to freeze the smaller tanks before filling them.

Yes I've worked a few fields before. Filling the small tanks is not the issue. I've never handled the back end logistics of getting the bulk tank

I rented one for a field we had, where we didn't have a air compressor and were shooting tippmann's. I filled the twelve+ 20oz tanks with no issues. I had a fill station so I just rented the tank. It was like $125-150 for the filled tank and rental initially. It was $45 for the refills. The biggest issue I had, was transporting the tank back and forth from the vendor to the field and back by myself. The tank was heavy and awkward to transport, even with a full size truck. But the cost wasn't bad at all. Call a welding shop or air rental place around you and see what they charge. If they deliver or would refill by swapping tanks, that would be best.

I'd start with a 20lb siphon tank. Typically readily available and allot easier to handle. I use a sodastream and have 3 lovers of soda water at our house so for that alone its worth it to always have around ($14 to swap a 16oz tank - jesus!!!) the costs above are about spot on i think it was $130 initially and depending on the market value of Co2 $25-32 to fill. allot of our outlaw games guys are still running Co2 so I'm the guy for that now. fun to still tinker with the old school ways

Someone gave me a 20 lb tank for free. It was out of hydro so I took it to the local welding supply. They swapped it for a full in hydro siphon for about $120. It costs $60 for a swap. Technically this works out to about $5 per 20 oz fill
but in reality probably more like $6. As I have a tank with the sticker from the shop, so if it goes out of hydro I can still swap it there for the same price. I’ve had it for a
few years and I’m in my second full. It’s nice to have it available for the montneels as well as the backyard games. If I relied on it for all our air I would be looking to lower costs but for my level
of use the $60/20lbs is fine. I haven’t gotten it filled I’m over a year so my prices may have changed too. That’s my story and I’m stickin to it

I guess to go a little more into the logistics of owning one... you need a welding supply place relatively close. you just take the take around back in our case and they have me in the system and scan it and swap it out with another tank each time - this can suck - sometimes they don't have a siphon, so now I try and call ahead. interestingly you can invert the tank to get the siphon affect and you get a couple more fills out of that, as it really depends who put the dip tube in the other tank. I've tried to track fills but its harder than it seams. make sure you strap it to the wall if you invert. so allot of dragging the tank around hence my advice to go with a 20

The best place I found for CO2 are place that refill industrial fire extinguisher (some models run on CO2).
In my area they are also cheaper than welding supply store.
They also only carry food grade CO2 so you can also refill sodastream bottle too.
