Leland co2 12 Gram Metal Shavings

So I bulk ordered 500 Leland 12 grams for stock class games. After a few days of play, my phantom began to leak down the barrel. Upon disassembly, I found a bunch of metal flakes in the cup seal of the powertube. I replaced the seal, but then had the same problem a few days later (metal shavings). I cracked a few 12 gram chargers open into a plastic bag and found the same sort of metal flakes/shavings. Has anyone else had this problem? Did I just get a bad batch? Is it something else? Appreciate the help!

Definitely sounds like a bad batch. Me and most of Ragnastock use those 12's. Id contact them to resolve this.

Everyone uses Leland's to avoid metal shavings and have consistent fill. Call them.

I emailed Leland, heard nothing, so called them today and the representative said she would look into it. I'll let everyone know when I hear more.

UPDATE: I got in touch with Leland, they will be shipping me new cartridges, and I will be sending them the defective ones so they can figure out what went wrong. They were happy to help and easy to work with.

Resurrecting a dead thread with an update, unfortunately not good news. Leland sent me 600 replacement cartridges (gave me an extra 100 as a bonus, which was nice), but they contained metal shavings as well. This caused the same leaking problems that the others did. This was a couple weeks after my last post on 6/8/2025. I got back in touch, they said they would replace the second defective lot with new ones once a new batch was manufactured. Out of curiosity I cut one in half with a Dremel tool and didn't see anything odd inside the body of the charger, so I'm guessing the problem is in the "plug" that is used to seal the charger itself.
I got some testers yesterday, 3/4/26, and...more metal shavings (picture below). I opened multiple cartridges, some with my Phantom bucket changer and some with an ICD lever changer just to make sure the problem wasn't from equipment. Leland is giving me a refund (did so with no hassle, so again, good customer service), but I guess I'll find another supplier.

Unfortunately with co2 being an industrial gas this will occur....we have to order specifically bulk "food grade" co2 for our applications to avoid contaminants

Have you tried any other marker? Long shot but maybe the shavings are coming from some other part of your system?

              Are the shavings magnetic?

The lever changer was never attached to the phantom at any point, so I'm pretty sure it's not from equipment. I'll try opening a few more and seeing if the shavings are magnetic.

That’s not good. My last batch of food grade 12g were not Leland’s. I usually go with whatever RedRock is selling in bulk. My last batch were labeled Special Force but I’m pretty sure they all come from the same manufacturer. Hopefully they get it sorted out. Leland’s have always been my go to. Oil free is my main concern but this is the first time I seen actual contaminants.
