A buddy recently got a cool Automag. Then he ordered a new ULE body from AGD. He asked me about helping him out but I've never worked on Mags lol. I know just doing a body swap should be easy but is there a walkthrough somewhere? Would like to send to him.
Installing a ULE Mag body tutorial?

Not that I've ever seen. It's stupid simple. Remove air line Remove the two frame screws, remove valve and bolt from old body, take off old body, place new body on rail, install front frame screw, insert bolt/valve, install rear frame screw. Attach air line
The only thing to watch out for is of he is going from a twist lock body to a ule you will need to remove the detent from the rail as the ule uses side mounted detents.
The rail detents are just press fit in

Thank you and it is a twist lock body - is there a preferred method to removing the rail detent? Not that I've ever seen. It's stupid simple. It should be fairly straight forward as mags are only held together by two screws: the valve field strip screw and the front frame screw.
A few caveats or gotchas though:- If its currently got a twist lock body, you will have to press the barrel lock pin out of the rail since the ULE body won't fit with it in place as they use Autococker threaded barrels instead
- I don't think this one should be an issue since you're not changing rails, but there are two different length front frame screws depending on which rail you're using

I mainly see people wrap a towel around the rail and use a vice to push it most of the way out and wiggle the rest of the way out with some pliers. The article I linked above mentions how they did it it this way.Comment

That's what I meant, the barrel lock pin, not detent. Thanks snooganIt should be fairly straight forward as mags are only held together by two screws: the valve field strip screw and the front frame screw.

I just found 2 sockets, one larger to go on one side of the rail that fit around the pin body and one smaller that would push the body of the pin and put it all in a vice. The hardest part was getting it to all line up before the vice was closed. Helps to have another person

Yess yess, come to the dark side, we have cookies
Honestly I've become more of a mag guy. Starting around 2009 I built my cocker and it's completely decked out at this point, at the time I never thought I would put it down. It's still great fun to shoot but around 2015 I decided to build a mag. Figured the old "battle" (that really only existed because of the players) was cockers vs mags so I should experience the other side of it. Got a smoking deal on an x valve minimag to start and traded around the parts to make it mechanical and more to my liking.
Now a days I actually enjoy shooting the mechanical mag a little more than the e blade cocker. It's hard to describe but I find the mags in general have a lot of "feedback". When you pull the trigger you know exactly where in the trigger stroke it will fire, you know where the barrel is pointing without looking and the balance just feels right to me. They are a spool valve but they are very very crisp for a spool. It's a very snappy shot.
Idk when but I'm planning to convert mine to a pnumag
The possibilities with mags are really endless

For sure and he's the type to buy cool stuff but not ever really look into how to tune/maintain LOL so I was proud.
He already has a double trigger Benchmark frame on the way though LOL. I might try to snatch up the stock frame and wood grips and mod for a sniperComment

Why not just build your own mag and join him?
