Figuring out set screw size

Edit: solved. Dye Izon sight uses M3x3mm cup point set screws.

Trying to determine the proper size of grub screws for a Dye Izon sight. It came with one at least. It uses a 1/16 allen key. 1/8" long.

Do Autococker trigger shoe set screws also use a 1/16 allen? If so then I'd know to try some 4-40's. Or do those use a .50?

But I've also found that 6-32 set screws say to use a 1/16 Allen, 6-32 just seems too big (in my mind) compared to this screw

It might be 6-40, a common size for sights. The finer pitch is supposed to reduce loosening under shock/ vibration.

1/16" allen wrenches are typical for #5 and #6, all pitches. #5 is exactly 1/8" diameter while #6 is .138" nominal.

Thanks for the suggestion! It does look like a finer thread.

Here's a slightly blurry super close-up of the little guy. It's 1/8" long as well.

Grab a grip frame screw (10-32) and line up the threads with that.. if it is the same pitch, the threads will line up perfectly.. then you can garage more or less threads with some certainty… or if it’s a 1/8” long.. count the number of threads on it and multiply by 8

We're looking like a 40 thread count. Bolt Depot has #5-40 and #6-40 for cheap plus under $5 shipping so going to get a few of each and will report back

Something ain't adding up. If that's .125" long, then it's closer to 60tpi...count the threads, ~7 profiles over the length, *8=56tpi). And with ImageJ, looks like a major diameter of ~.093".

We might be looking at a #3-56, but that should use a .050" allen key so you don't end up with some <.01" thin walls. Maybe the length is off, or maybe they just decided to accept the thin walls.
