‘Raw’ Unfinished Marker - Safe to play?

I recently picked up a phantom with some raw unfinished parts. The parts specifically are the duckslide, the 86* CCM frame, and an LNT trigger frame.

Will it be problematic to take it out and play with it as is? I can get it anno’d if need be but I personally like to silvery look. I’ve read a few things about it on the internet but I’m trying to figure out how much of it is fud none-sense and how much is true. Thanks in advance for the help and insights!

As I understand it the anno process makes the skin of the aluminum harder and helps thread longevity. While it will probably work without anno you run the risk of your threads taking damage from assembly/dis-assembly, and pressure while gassed up. They do make truly clear anno as well if you wanted the looks to stay the same.

Don't know much about phantoms but I think they run a full 800psi without a reg. Just make sure you've got a lot of thread engagement at those pressures so you don't blow out a fitting.

You can have it clear anodised to keep the shiny look
Playing it raw might get some corrosion at spot that are harder to polished once you have corrosion (inside tube), I bough a raw sniper few year ago that have already been played at that point and now I am trying to polish it so I can get it to ano and I think it will take more time now

Also you could have pitting corrosion between the slide and the body unless you fully dissassemble it after each day to clean and dry

Keeping it clean is good for a while. As you clean it, you pull off some of the oxides, causing a little more wear. You start to lose the crisp edges in places (unevenly). That's for good aluminum. Cheap aluminum can pit more easily.

I wouldn’t. It will probably be fine but the anodized process actually harden the surface. I would have it anodized before I played.

Don’t do it. Anodize it.

The sweat on your palms can quickly make the slide pit.

Thank you all for the insights. I’ll be sure and get the parts clear anno’d then. Are there any particular anodizers that do a good job with clear annos? I’m not well versed on the subject and this will be the first marker that I’ve ever sent out for anno

I use Blizzard he’s very reasonable if you are doing just one color to.

Arc has done my G6R and Orracle projects are currently being done by them. No color option should be pretty cheap and fast turnaround.

You can go to any of the big names in paintball im sure but if you know of a local that's fine too. Just be aware that there are several kinds and grades. I made the mistake of having a military grade done once and it changed the inside bore of my barrel by 2 thousands! Made the barrel very reluctant to thread into markers as well.

The anno does not make the metal any stronger. It just gives the finish a harder coating, so it has better corrosion and scratch resistance.
But there is zero safety issue. It was common in the "old days", 25-30 years ago, for guns to be powdercoated instead of annodized.
and also back then, if you got bored with the anno, you could strip it off with caustic solvents down to bare metal, polished up. Then hit with a clear enamel
