Shimming tank regulators

I need to bump up the pressure on one of my older 4500psi tanks to run a vm68 a little better. I'm thinking 50 to 100 psi extra should be enough for me. The reg I'm using is an unbranded one with disks and a couple thin shims in it running @800psi so I want to end up under 900psi. My question is roughly what is the best way to shim it to get the extra output I need? Is putting an entire disk in going to do it or is that too big a change and I want to put a couple thin shims in? I have a universal rebuild kit coming so I will have a selection of each to play around with.

The thin shims for ninja tanks typically adjust around 100psi. It really just depends on the thickness of the shims. I wouldn't expect less than 100psi though

Thin shims it is then. I have a test stand all ready to go so I can dial it in.

I added a single belleville washer to my reg stack for another 100psi on some 13ci tank a while back. Works like a champ.

A belleville washer usually adds a lot more than 100psi. Was your reg starting at a very low pressure? Is the gage you used to check the new output of good quality and not already measuring toward the top of its range before the added washer? I know the post-reg burst disk should keep you safe, but this doesn’t sound right to me.
