Largest volume Nelson...

I am not sure what is considered to be the average valve volume of a Nelson, but what are the ones that would be above average?

Is there an easy resource that has the volumes of different types of Nelson valves?

What ever happened to the MCB/Yoda valve that was being passed around for testing? It was mentioned in the 40 pages of failure thread from some years back. I have curiosities pertaining to this prototype valve, if it is still floating around in the forgotten depths of the MCB abyss.

Given that a Nelson valve chamber takes a screw-in valve seat, due to the threads you'd have to go out of your way to make the inner diameter significantly bigger.

It would be easy to make it longer, but make it more than a fraction of an inch so, then standard Nelson springs won't work properly anymore. Therefore, I'd wager that 99.9% of valve bodies are within a few percentage points of the same basic internal volume.

Without a custom-made body? Use a braided hose and full-size brass elbows. The hose volume adds to the chamber volume.

However, unlike a Sheridan valve, without a major redesign of the Nelson power tube system, an increase in chamber volume won't buy you much- it'll make gas efficiency worse, and won't allow you to appreciably lower the operating pressure. (Which of course has no real benefits in and of itself, anyway.)

Gargoyle. The OD and length of the outside of the valve body are the same as a Phantom but the ID is the same the whole way back. After accounting for the plug in the end I would guestimate probably 50% larger if you take the spring guide out and use a longer spring for the valve.

Those Gargoyles are nice, but hard to come by. Their triggers sound like a work of art.

I am not worried about whether or not it takes standard Nelson springs, honestly. A spring is a spring. I would actually prefer that it takes the longer Spyder valve springs.

I can probably start by sticking a gas-thru grip in the ASA of my Tigershark, then experiment with opening the port between the ASA and the valve chamber. I have been meaning to put a vertical ASA on it, anyways.

I would still like to get my hands on that fat powertube prototype valve. Am I misremembering this valve's existence? There was a Nelson valve made in the name of science that had a larger powertube, right?

We were working on it, the thread was called something silly like Project Leprechaun... I was throwing money at new ideas for valve nuts, and cups that would in theory cut down on the turbulence and wasted energy in the valve along with cutting down on any loss between the power tube and the valve nut. At this point the Lapco #6 is still the largest flow power tube that I am aware of.

I have a Gargoyle valve body just laying around I payed $85 its gloss black. Its got the devolumizzing piece as well that holds the spring. if you remove that it would increase the volume on the back side of the valve, you would just need to re spring the valve with a longer spring.
