Inside Tippmann Raider hopper

Finishing up some other projects so I’m starting to work on this again. I realized I had never inspected the internals of the hopper. It looks like a Halo B/Cyclone hybrid. Figured I share if anyone was interested.

On another note, I was able to pick a Stryker for a really good deal off EBay. I cannabilized it and mounted the Stryker trigger frame to the Raider body. So it’s electronic now. Odd thing was the Raider body had a “bracket” inbetween the body and the trigger frame that would not allow the Stryker noid and valve to have enough clearance. The Stryker body does not have this. It was a head scratcher at first but it seems that its only purpose was to prevent someone from doing exactly what I was doing. Converting the Raider to an electronic marker using the Stryker trigger frame.

It was made of super soft and cheap plastic. I was able to remove it with minimal effort and mount the Stryker internals with no complications. The Raider and Stryker are definitely made from different plastics. The Raider plastic is softer and less durable. Anyways, shoots great now. I do feel a soft burst of air on every shot though, around the trigger. Does the Stryker have a QEV already? I inspected it but to be honest this isn’t really my wheelhouse yet. I thought about putting a GoG 360 QEV on it but if it already has one I’m not going to mess with it.

It’s also got me thinking….. if the Halo B and Cyclone can obviously be combined what’s stopping me from doing this to a standard Cyclone on a A5 or 98….

Replace the paddles with a cone and place beads in the piston housing that are magnetized to the feed piston instead of using a spring. I know the beads are being actuated by the bolt on the Raider but wouldn’t the burst of blowback gases be enough to actuate it on a A5? It would need a a transfer tube, I think, inside the housing. That way the air is directly placed and dispersed at the beads. Just thinking out loud though. I’m still trying to figure it out

Also, a much better design for this would’ve been to mount the hopper underneath the barrel and mount to the front grip. There is plenty of room there and the hopper is much bigger than it needs to be with lots of dead space. Mount the hopper under the barrel and make it side loaded with a nice aluminum speed feed and a membrane underneath to prevent dirt and shit getting in. Or have it top loaded but it can slide out from underneath the barrel on a guide then pushed back and secured with a latch. Slower but safer I think.

The ergonomics would be great on that and allow you to shoot it like a traditional marker.

Just realized that wouldn’t work because the bolt return is what’s powering the damn thing…. I’m describing a Q loader and it would’ve been better with a Q loader…. and I’m talking to myself
