Used luxe

Thinking of maybe buying a used luxe. What are people’s thoughts? If I was to get a “ice” or a “X”. Can you make them work as the newer generation (upgrades)? Or are they outdated

As someone who hasn’t owned a lux. (I have owned shockers and a vanquish); I would go with the x or newer preferably a tm40 or newer. They are based on the gamma core and shouldn’t have issues like prior spoolies could have had. The other ones are pretty old now and parts could be an issue too. There is a sweet tm40 with mech in the bst here for a good price.

Keep in mind some of the earlier luxes were no better than shockers but they talked.

If you're looking for that airy shot the luxe/shocker/Vanquish is know for, look no further than the Luxe Ice. Another option would be a Vanquish GT or any Vanquish with a V16 bolt. Although parts are getting harder to find for them and they're not as pretty as a Luxe.

Every "newer" Luxe from the X, TM40 & Idol uses a copy of Planet Eclipse's gamma core. The shot quality will be quicker or "snappy" compared to the older models. This is a trade-off for greater reliability and air efficiency. Although I would not recommend getting a Luxe X due to paint handling issues.

The real sweet spot for the newer Luxe models is a used TM40.

With the Luxe Ice or older make sure it has a charger. They are hard to find and going for crazy prices right now.

I had an early 1st Gen Luxe and other then eyes going bad regularly like every few seasons it shot amazing. I added an EF rod to it and it would shoot close to a case on a 68/45 and worked amazing in the cold to with the added pressure. Back then they had a lifetime warranty and would replace them for free at events so I never had and issue finding replacements. Now who knows…

The EF rod was just a turned down plastic coat hanger piece that filled a section of the bolt it cranked up the operating pressure. You trimmed them down till the over pressure relief stoped bleeding off. The one I had took a full length one but some had to be trimmed.

My only gripe was the eyes ribbon durability and the trigger guard was sharp and cut the hell out of your fingers if you dove with it a lot.

I would mix oil in with the grease in the winter and always ran stock settings with the EF rod. It shot money and I wish I never sold it.

I couldn’t get my 2nd hand ICE to shoot in the cold sub 30* and didn’t keep it long enough to use it much or attempt to figure it out. But the early Luxe I put a ton of paint through. However I would not buy one today unless you could find and source replacement eye ribbons for it.

If you haven’t shot a Luxe I suggest trying one. It’s a very long platform something I really liked about it. Made it super stable platform for shooting off the break and when running and gunning. The way it sits in your hand is very comfortable and feels very natural to point due to how close to the center line of the marker the grip lets you hold it.

I've got a couple Luxe ICE's and love them. Have yet to find anything that shoots as nice as them. Efficiency is meh (8 pods on a 68/4500), but they handle paint very well. They're also pretty reliable. I've been seeing them go for $400 - $450 recently. And as Hobbes mentioned, those old Luxe (ICE, 2.0, etc.) chargers are impossible to find. I heard DLX was supposed to have more of them manufactured but don't think that's happened yet.
