Can a spyder barrel be freak bored ?

There's only a few barrels that can't be Freaked, for one reason or another.

Original Phantom barrels: due to the O-ring at the breech. The bottom of the groove is too small, and boring for the insert can break through that.

Original Trracer barrels: the breech hood is only a little larger than the insert. You bore it and the wall thickness is only about .007-.008" per side.

Original Blazer barrels: The OD of the barrel is about .795", and the insert is nominally .750". Once bored, that leaves a wall thickness of only about 0.022" per side. Plus, the bolt travels slightly inside the breech- and can jam on a too-tight insert.

BE Cobra, Ranger, most Carters, the SL-68 and most Tippmanns: The bolt goes slightly into the barrel breech, and there's no inner "breech wall" to retain the insert. Meaning the bolt can pull the insert backwards, preventing another ball from being fed.

Stingray 2: The groove at the base of the breech is too small, and would break through. Arguably, the pin grooves are too.

Automag, Mirage and Vector: The bolt rides inside the barrel, of course. A "Freak back" would have to be front-loading.

I think the original Sterling pumps: The root diameter of the threads is, as I recall, very close to the OD of the insert.

[addition] BE Tigershark: It [i]can[i] technically be bored, but the breech hood area would only be about 0.012" to 0.013" thick.

Would it be possible to do a front inserted SL-68 barrel? Like the other tippmann freaks?

The original sterling barrels can be done. But it has a high incidence of destroying the backs due to the thin-ness.
I have had several successfully bored. if they are off center at all then it it a no go.

Can confirm on the 98 barrels. There is a 98 thread freak back but it is front loading only, and does have a bit of a shelf area before the insert actually touches the ball

Front-insert for the SL is possible, but requires pump modifications. The "knuckle" where the front and back screw together can't be much under 1", and the pump only fits a 7/8", unmodified.
