Is there any special macro fitting needed to use 1/4” rigid stainless or aluminum tubing with? If it ok to use hard tuning like that with macrofittings - does the macro fitting need to be able to “dig into” the tubing to keep it retained?

I have some setup in a straight shot so it can’t push itself out. Maybe you could groove it or something, but the brass can’t bite into stainless to retain it. -
I have made a few hard lines from aluminum tubing, as far as I know regular macro fittings will work. So will ccm fittings if you want to go that route. I end up flaring the ends a bit and deburring the ends as to not shred/cut the oring upon installing, I know Luke of Luke's Customs also makes aluminum hardline for his full custom builds and he uses regular macro line fittingsComment

I use standard Macro Line fittings as well as CCM and Neumech fittings for hardlines. Do get a gauge line rated for pressure and bendable. There is tubing that is not bendable, in particular, some brass tubing. Stainless Steel is my favorite to bend, but I do aluminum, stainless, and brass hardlines. When you do the cut ends, be sure to ream the interior and chamfer the outer edge. Metal tubing will cut O-rings quite easily if you do not.

I found the hard lines be leaky. I couldn't get mine to seal up right on my Phantom. Went back to stock.Comment

Like others have said: they must be captured since the retainers in the macroline fitting will not grab the hard line (aka it will blow out, be cautious), deburr the ends well so they do not cut the o-rings, and oil the ends of them before inserting into the macroline fittings to let them slide past the o-rings without cutting or rolling them. Again, be careful if you choose to attempt something like this because these fittings are not rated to work with hard line. I would recommend starting with the line too long and try to assemble and cut it down slowly until it is as long as possible while still allowing assembly of the mating components. The only way to remove or install these lines is by removing the valve at the rear, or the on/off ASA on the bottom and thats what prevents them from coming out of the fittings. I would not suggest more bend than the example below to prevent it being able to be pulled / pressured out of the fittings which is why i chose stainless line.
