School me on a dye dsr pro

I've been offered a dsr pro from a neighbor. Looks clean. He says it's only a year old. I know zero about these guns. How are they, what should I look out for and how .I h are the worth used roughly. It's a blue and black fade model. Comes with the case and few barrels.

    They have an eye pipe

It's called a crack pipe for a reason

The following is my generalizations of more current dye it is not dsr specific

They shot nice. Smooth, the ergonomics are correct, basically what you would expect out of a high end these days.

Since about 2011 dyes tolerances have gotten way too tight. If you are at the field and have an o ring fail, it's often not good enough to just know the size. You often have to know the material and durometer as well. If you don't have those EXACT o rings it may leak or not shoot. To me that's pretty frustrating alone. Now add in the crack pipe. I mean eye pipe. Every time dye makes a new one they basically say "this one won't break it doesn't have the problems that the last one did" then when the next version comes out they say the same thing, they are currently on 4th generation eye pipe rather than admit it was a bad idea. So plan to have a spare one in your toolbox.

I'm not impressed with their markers. Soft goods are still really good and there's no doubt the rotors are fast and tough

I have a DSR +. To me its the most comfortable of the high end markers. As Trbo323 mentions the eye pipe due crack over time however its a lot easier to replace a cracked eye every couple of years then it is to clean eyes after you break a ball. I do like how clean the body is without the detent covers like on other high end markers. Now main reason i like mine is that it has a mechanical frame conversion that to me is so much fun. You are getting modern reliability with old school dependability. The only batteries i bring to the field are the ones for my hopper. But test it if you can, you may not like the smoothness. I personally have mine set up for a snappy recoil as i like the feedback but i would decide from there.

I think DSR pro is about 600 used. I just saw their flagship MXR sell for 650 used.
Also add an O ring on the barrel to help prevent cracking the eye pipe. I don't know about the tolerances concerning the O rings as i usually buy my rebuilds from DYE directly its easier.

This would be to replace my evil minion which I rather enjoy but haven't used in maybe 10 years. It's very smooth compared to everything else I own so having another smooth gun wouldn't be a big deal to me.
I will have to read up on the eye pipe. How to spot and replace etc.
Ultimately this would end up as a back up probably. Something I have kicking around for walk on games mostly.

If is just a backup idk that I would choose something with the eye pipe. It would really suck to pull the backup out of the bag only to find that the plastic got brittle and snapped or that you don't have that one specific polyurethane 014 70 durometer you need.

Do you already have a emek or etha? Those would certainly be good alternatives that I wouldn't worry about sitting in a bag for a few years and then needing to shoot.

Other options just to think about

DP fusion, really any of them but the fx I've always liked
Automag, old school spool, mags can sit for a decade and come out shooting (put some oil in the ASA though)
          Etek 3+

I wasn't really looking for a replacement, this just kinda fell into my lap. I'm surrounded by mags and other guns but only the minion as a fast semi modern gun.

The eye pipe kille these for me...

I want to like them but having to depend on a crappy piece of cast acrylic to not ruin your day..... No thanks.

I had a dm12 fail me mid game because the pipe cracked and exited the gun.
