    Burst disc blew, rebuild reg?

    As the title says, I just had my first ever blown burst disc and was wondering if I should or need to rebuild the tank reg? It’s a Guerrilla Air Myth that was performing A-ok before it blew in my gear bag.

    I'm guessing it was the 1.8K burst disc? It's never a bad idea, just to be safe, but it's not always required. This time of year I see disc occasionally get popped due to the tank being stored in unheated conditions, and then being filled so quickly that the piston is unable to move fast enough to close off the air supply before the reg exceeds 1,800 PSI.

      Idk about gorilla/myth but ninja sends new disks with their rebuild kits. It's a good idea to replace them every rebuild as they can wear out (metal fatigue from being under pressure, then not and pressure again etc. )

      That and, I've heard horror stories of myth regs imploding, I'd at least crack it open just to look things over

        if anything it would most definitely EXplode.

        but as stated above, you dont NEED to rebuild but atleast a visual would be worthwhile. One of my coworkers bought a tank, had the burst disc pop within a week(?), replaced the disc, and has been using it for the last few years... no issues.

          I would clean it no need for a rebuild. Reg Seat are probably good. Get the proper grease replacing the O-rings wouldn’t hurt. At minimum I would clean it. I like to blow my tank out with some compressed air make sure there is not dirt or debris in the tank especially if it’s an older tank. Dirty air is usually what causes my burst disk issues.

          Every time I have had a burst disk go it’s always the same field it happens at. They have a crap compressor that’s old and tired. I think they removed the filter or the old bulk tanks may have some debris in them from many years of abuse.

          I counter this by cleaning may tank regs more often. I like to do this anyway because I run a lot of setups that require consistent tank output pressures. Like on my Phantoms.

            Kind of, from what was reported to me, the guts of the myth basically shattered which then releases full tank pressure into the marker.

            Yes the burst disk goes but the flow rate is so high it doesn't always prevent damage downstream

              Just rebuilt the First Strike Hero 2 version of one of these. Check the tiny little reg seat on the piston. If it doesn't look like a large ball point pen tip, you'll need a new seat. Mine failed similarly after being aired and stored for a few days.

                Thanks for all the responses guys. I’m going to break it down and inspect everything and if I find anything interesting I’ll update this thread. It’s one of the older style Myths, not the First Strike.

                You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is what did it in. This field I visited didn’t even have a properly working chronograph(?!) so I doubt their compressor/s are any much better.

                    I have never had to replace parts in tank regulators aside from burst disks, orings and fill nipples. I do think I clean them more often then most. Most people ignore the tank reg until it gives them issues. I like to keep them clean especially my 3k regs, I use on my Phantom setups. Mainly because I’m running the tanks output pressure direct to the valve.

                      I would replace that reg. The older GA regs were not good, in my opinion.

                      That said, I do clean and regrease my tank regulators with Dow Molykote 111 every few months and check the pressure output afterwards.

                      If a burst disk has blown, then the reg seat needs to be cleaned or replaced. For most regs, this means a new piston, since the seat is frequently integrated and cannot be replaced. If you don’t replace the seat/piston, it will fail again and keep blowing disks.

                        Other then that odd ping noise on recharge, I have never had issues with myth regs. There were a lot of knock off ones back in the day that were junk. But the actual myth wasn’t bad. It’s hard to tell the difference. Honestly I couldn’t tell you the difference between the two just looking at them. But I run one on my 9ci because it’s so short and it has performed really well for me for may many years. Before that it was on a 68 that I used for years that’s the only reason I know it’s an original myth. It came off a GA bottle I bought new that went past its hydro date. So I switched the burst disks out to 3k and threw it on my 9ci. I get good consistency out of the reg to.
