    How to seal dyed parts

I've been playing around with dying various bits with Rit synthetic and I'm running in to an issue with it transferring after the fact. For example, grips. After the dying process, I rinse and sometimes scrub them, but I will still get dye on my hands from use. Even worse if they come in to contact with paintball paint, which is inevitable.

Is there any way to prevent this and seal the dye in? I haven't found solution for the synthetic dye. From what I can tell, Rit just makes a 'dye lock' product for fabrics.

The dye fades over time. I have not found it staining but I do make sure paint don’t sit on them for long periods of time.

Different materials react differently. My yellow Proshield bottoms I Re-Dye every 2 years to keep them Purple. They are about due. But you can see how they fade a bit over time. First pick is right after I did them. The one with my son was the end of this year.

        the fade looks sick
ive seen guys leave the 'highlighter bottoms' out in the sun and the uv bleaches them white. nobody has had any issues with it compromising/cracking any parts so far.

was thinking about dyeing the ones ive got . maybe the sun bleaching first would help the dyed colors hold longer? time to fafo

These haven't had a chance to fade, they just stain my hands right off the bat, but I can't rinse any more dye off. Would adding salt to the mix do anything? Any other tricks to keep the dye locked on to the parts and off my hands?

post a pic of the bottle of dye youre using.
some types (synthetic) work good on plastic, others are clothing specific and wont do much to mask parts

      my process has been:

heat the pot until you get to whatever temp the directions on the bottle say you need.
i add salt, i use the walmart brand thats like $2 a can
i also use "synthetic fixative" its also a RiT product
i use tongs to handle the parts while submerging them
i do short (5 seconds) dunks and use most of the 7oz bottle when doing shield bottoms
i have also, in the past, started with a much lighter shade (yellow) of Jacquard BASIC (as in ph basic and acidic) powdered dye that is specifically formulated for plastics. in my head, this helps the next colors to penetrate.

what colors are you going for? whats the starting color of your mask?

      pics would help

heres some olives i was able to get pretty close to the ize nose brown. most folks use scarlet, but i got this shade by using Jacquard basic yellow, then RiT orange,
then a tiny bit of red. i just kept adding the colors to the same pot without fresh water inbetween dunks. And i didnt measure anything either, for maximum diy iq points

You’re using Rit Synthetic because there is a fabric dye that looks identical without the Synthetic label.

There are other brands that you can get vibrant colors I haven’t tried. It may just be the material you are trying to dye.
