    Compressor Recommendation (workbench use)

I know... I know... Some might think I'm flogging a dead horse...

    Let me explain....

I don't get to the field anymore, due to age and infirmities... What I can do is restore, renovate, reconstitute old/odd/dismantled paintball guns.

To do this I need HPA to the workbench... Unfortunately the local dive shop is closed September - March so there is no way to get scuba tanks filled.

Can you recommend a compressor that is not going to cost an arm and a leg, that will keep an 80cf scuba at 750psi? I don't need higher pressure to work on guns, the 750psi will work as input to the on-gun regulator, and if I really needed it to be lower I could cascade it through an lp tank/reg, or keep my second scuba at a lower pressure. I want to keep the pressure into the on-gun 200psi (at least) higher than the gun regs output for proper regulation.

    Thoughts? Recommendations?

    GX CS4

I have this one and it works great. Just put antifreeze (they say you can use water) in it if you ever plan on taking it anywhere. I learned the hard way and forgot to clean my car out after a winter outlaw game. But I have had many years of service out of it mainly tech and testing. I’m not blasting big tanks to 4500 all the time to keep the service life up on it. But the PCP guys do regularly. I do let it run after filling to circulate coolant and bring operating temps down but it will fill 68ci and 80ci tanks reasonably fast. There is a slightly upgraded one now that is designed to run 12hr continuous it’s basically the same thing with upgraded cooling and more fans. (Same pump GX-CS4E) so as long as you don’t beat it they hold up well. I have already gotten my money in fun out of it and would definitely buy another if it kicks the bucket. Not much for parts if you need to fix it unfortunately. I will probably order a new one when it breaks and start manufacturing upgraded parts for the old one since there isn’t anyone doing it. But so far it’s been a great lil pump. It’s pretty quiet to considering.

This is what I use, but I just fill up my myriad of paintball tanks laying around

It fills a 48ci/3k in ten minutes, has an auto stop, and I got an amazon warranty for 30 bucks so I might get a new one if this burns out

second the the GX CS-4 - on sale for 569 now it looks like - it will handily keep that scuba at 750, but is completely capable of going to 4500 if you want it.
I've filled countless tanks now with no issues.

I'll add to chucky's advise to let it run to cool down - I also feel like it does better if you warm it up for a bit before closing the valve to start pumping air.
        great and well proven unit.

Yes that’s important to. Open the purge valve let it spin up and gradually close it after it’s in operation.

This is the right answer. I've tried several and it's easily the best.

I just got a SMACO one off ebay yesterday with a little better filter than the cheapest ones. I am VERY impressed. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GSVSV4P6...fed_asin_title comes with auto shut off, and pumped 5 tanks to 4500 with no issues, I drained the water blow off valve every 1500 psi or so during filling just to clear out moisture, and let the fans run with compressing to cool it down periodically and just filled them all up slowly over a day or so. Pretty quiet, I had ordered a big GX upgraded filter for $130 that arrived after, but after inspecting the ones that came with it after use, they looked really clean, little bit of condensation up before the filter, but nothing after.

My scuba shop up the road closed and I haven't filled my scuba in like 5 years, and to get it Hydro'd/VIP every year, and fills at $10 a piece plus drive time, this seemed like a winner and highly rated. I have no doubt I can just cycle this and keep my scuba topped off ~2500,but not sure I'll bother the compressor is so fast.
