Barrel ID: Stainless, cocker, o-ring detent

I recently picked up this barrel from mole1119 here (https://www.mcarterbrown.com/forum/b...mmech-and-more) . When I received it I realized the o-ring on it wasn't near the threads, but forward of the breach. I removed it and found that the barrel was turned down to allow the o-ring to act as a forward detent to prevent rollouts. I replaced the o-ring and it works.

Now I've seen other barrels with o-ring detents within the breach, but not forward of the threads. It has the profile of a stock 99 barrel, and I believe it is stainless based on a scratch test. I had thought it was J&J, and might be, with the detent mod added. Any thoughts?

I have a BOA Snakebite with the same mod; it works great! Mine has the black wrinkle coat over hard chrome and the chrome doesn't look disturbed where the o-ring detent is so I assume it came from BOA that way and wasn't done after the fact.

I only have one stainless J&J but it doesn't have the o-ring detent and has their signature straight rifling.

BOA did sell unported barrels too. They don't seem to be as common as a snakebite or express but they're out there.

In my recollection, BOA never made stainless barrels, they were all brass or hard chromed. I really didn't think J&J did either. Sure looks like one of those two to me, though.

I'd bet BOA is the maker of this barrel OP as I've seen this on many other BOA barrels. It really is a great detent.

confirmed this setup is good.

They may have put the O ring up there because there was more meat for the retention rather than inside the gun in the thin part of the barrel which would have been much more challenging.

Yeah looking more closely seems like nickle, I was humble in my scratch test. Brass on the inside and a functional detent...yep this is cool
