I think it's called a ram, but I have no idea what it does, where it goes, or what it's worth

Well, that particular model goes in your butt and if you have to ask what it does you are not ready for the answer.
I'm pretty sure I've seen that before but I'm having a hard time remembering what it was for. I'm curious what the answers are as wellI use Tapatalk which does NOT display comments. If you want me to see it, make it a post not a comment.

It's a barrel plug. They came in a foregrip. With a little twist this portion will loosen and can be removed from the foregrip. Likewise, twisting just a bit the other way tightens it and keeps it in the foregrip.Comment

That part is primarily of interest for those players that have the Benchmark front grip, and is missing the plug. The colors are perfectly matched for factory annoed Automag parts from that era. So an Automag collector, with a red Benchmark front grip missing the plug is your target audience.
This particular barrel plug can actually stop a series of balls from a fast electro, it is that good. With that said, I still don't use mine as barrel plugs, since people won't understand that it is safe - and worse, they might think that their old barrel plugs will work in any marker.Comment
