I have exactly zero skin is this game (other than wishing I could attend), but I think there's a pretty big difference between a PGP/Nelspot and a Phantom, even in a short barrel pistol setup. Phantoms have a lot of creature comforts and refinement over the early guns, even if they have some tweaking. I can imagine there is a different pace to the game when everyone is using the old guns, even if it is relatively subtle.

I think that Magfed and Mech ball as a comparison isn't too far off. Once the Emek and EMF100 hit the scene, they took over because they're more reliable and easier to use. Not to say that other platforms can't compete at a similar level, but there is always that extra jank element that changes how you approach a game.

None of that excuses poopy attitudes of course.

It actually started as PGP only but we felt Splatmasters and Nelspots met the spirit of the game. Hand-loaded single shots were added in a few years later because the guys who brought them understood what we were trying to accomplish. This thread is an example of why we don’t want to allow too many exemptions. It has been clear from the start that if you wanted to play and did not have a qualifying marker that one would be available so claiming this is about gatekeeping or not wanting to play with new people is just stupid. We invite hundreds of people through out the year to come to this event. It is probably my favorite event of the year. If you don’t like the rules as they are written then maybe you are not of the right mindset to enjoy this game. That is OK nobody says you have to come.

Its a no aluminum guns rule. Brass, steel and plastic allowed.
Really the spirit of the game has always been the PGP and PGP derivatives, with the odd Splatmaster or 2. The guns generally have an internal or permantly fixed 10 round magazine....or breach loaded single shot with no magazine and powered by a single 12 gram.
No direct feeds or hoppers, or tanks allowed.
We do a lot of niche games. Pump games, open games, mag fed games, and we are the only group in the world doing SMG 60 games.
This game is really a PGP game, not a stock class game.. Sorry if you cant understand the charm of the PGP, but this game is special and one of the high points of our season. I highly recommend it and there will be so many loaners, it is ridiculous sometimes..

sssooo, I just spent my morning reading and rereading all of this, not getting that time back... despite that & my dislike of pgp's (too tight of a pump stroke to trigger guard ratio, much prefer p68sc), I'm still tempted to go & see some familiar faces. would a pg be in the spirit of the game's theme? of course I can bring pgp's as well

i usually play stock class events with my phantom and on the rare occasion i catch one, its usually from a brass single shot. just sayin

There is brass at all of our games, including when we attend SGE. Some of these fellows only need one round to say hello. And then some of us require artillery, but we are fun to shoot at.
