    Riot's Pumpapalooza Question

    Hey folks,
I'm trying to decide on the what to do with the Pistol's Only day for Pumpapalooza.

I really liked it at Hogan's, but I'm reluctant for two reasons:
    1) I felt only their two speedball fields (air and hyper) were conducive to pistol play.
    2) I love that there's a new field in pump rotation for the New England pump players and don't want to hinder that by limiting it to just pistols.

With that in mind, a couple ideas were:

    - There were talks of camping at Powder Ridge Mountain Park (home of Hogan's Alley Paintball) this year, and I thought maybe an Open Class day one day, pistols only for a shorter Sunday. I didn't think people needed or wanted another overnight paintball weekend.
    - I could see if ChuckLove would be willing to set it up again at XTreme in Agawam, as that feels like a pretty centralized field for most of the crew.
    - I could pick another field and keep the pistol game rotating. The only issue here is, a lot of the northern fields are really far for single day games for a lot of us.
    - I could try to team up with one of the other smaller niche games and figure something out there.

There will definitely be another Hogan's [OC] Pump Day (Ive just yet to set it up) because I feel like CT needs to get some pump love too.
I will definitely have another Pistols Only game because that's my jam and they're such fun and different games.

Just wanted to spitball with you guys and get some ideas flowing.

Oh, and do people prefer Saturday or Sunday for single day games?

Both Hogan's and Xtreme are about the same travel time for me so doesn't matter which to me.

You are correct the two lower fields at Hogan's are the better ones for pumps in my opinion.

I can't talk about xtreme. Never been there.

Generally it doesn't matter which day I play as long as I have enough notice to plan for it.

I haven’t been to Hogan’s so I can’t talk about their fields. I do think that a lot of the fields at Xtreme would lend themselves to pistol play.

I'm of the opinion that there are already enough open class pump events and gatherings. Pistols only offers something both fresh and fun. I think Xtreme is better for this event than Hogan's as well. The only downside being there isn't a true woodsball field anymore.
I'm more than happy to host a Pistols only game at Xtreme again.

I agree there are a lot of open class pump games.. Hogan's is just unique in that it gives players another field option rather than more of the same. As for as pistols, I think I've already decided it isn't going to be at Hogan's.

Xtreme allows us to ref ourselves, we get much more games in that way

Not just because I live close to Hogan’s but I do really enjoy the event there. I am in the minority nowadays but like the woods field at Hogans playing amongst the trees. I personally don’t care for the speed ball fields and the in your face instantly games. That said I’ll be at whatever and wherever your game ends up.

NONOBLITUS - Appreciate it! I am going to reach out to Hogan's soon and get the Open Class day set up. Probably late August again.
The Pistol game is still TBD. Trying to wait on other games getting posted so as to not step on toes or over saturate the calendar.

Wherever and whenever. I'm just down for pistol only games.

Also, I did enjoy their upper fields, and the ride up.

Hogan’s is fun, but the breakup of the fields is a PITA. I really liked the woods field, the barrel field was fun too, but getting there and back it a pain in the ass. Unfortunately, between that and the long ass drive for me, Hogan’s is off the table.

I think there are way too many OC events in the calendar, so having the pistols only game is HUGE and creates a solid “hook”‘ to get attendance.

If you’re taking suggestions, you should consider Hornet’s Nest AND more importantly MSG on the short list for the pistol games.

MSG is probably my favorite field (they have a good variety of fields too) and run by great people. It needs to make a resurgence on the “pump circuit”. The only reason I don’t host games down there is because I can never find an open weekend with our overloaded calendar

Appreciate all the input, guys! To be clear, I am going to see if Hogan's will run a pump game either way. It did catch a few people outside of the normal group of players and again, it IS a different field than the same rotation we go through every year. It would be a shame if people don't make it, but I also understand that it's quite the drive for a few of our northern boys. The NH fields are about 3.5 hours for me, which is the main reason you only see me at Slim's two big games each year up there and the occasional Reaperball!

As for the Pistol game, it actually brings me joy that you guys like it. Especially knowing that I like experimenting with different game types to keep things fresh-- and that they sometimes miss..Haha! To the point about OC play being in abundance, that's why I like that there's only one Pistols Only per year. It, too, would get stale if run more frequently.

JeepDVLZ45 - I am absolutely taking suggestions, my only concern would be, do we have a reputation at the fields? A connect to set it up with? Or would I just be making phone calls and going in blind?

&& ChuckLove - I'm just trying to get you the opportunity to play more open class per your New Year's Resolution post! =P

The biggest downside to Hogan's is their paint. They bought a ton when they first opened (2023) and are still shooting it. It has heat cycled so many times at this point.
Now maybe we'll get lucky in 2025 and they'll have some new paint.

If you could negotiate a BYOP price for Hogans I would gladly pay more. Ask them what they make of a case and we pay the difference. (just for the event)

I like Hogans. Bar and Food is 👌🏼 I had just as much fun socializing after as I did playing.

But I’m indifferent I will play when and wherever. Looking forward to the 2025 season. There will be lots of pump days so get your dates locked in early and on the calendar that worked really good last year.

Unfortunately I'm doubtful this is a possibility with the mountain controlling all sales for the paintball field.
