Durham NC - xtreme Kombat big game

    Event is on July 18th.

I have to get out of the house. I know it is going to be painfully hot, but I just have to play. I signed up for Red team. Now time to go find my gear and see if my car will still start

So in an effort to reduce costs they allow pre-registration until tonight. So I bought the $30 pre-reg pass along with a case of paint. Day of event it is $35 to register. Huh- receipt shows 11.47 for "taxes and fees" Well sales tax on that purchase is only 6.47, so they charged me $5 to pre-reg online!!!! might as well waited until tomorrow and registered in person and paid that $5 directly to them and not some stupid internet payment processor......unless they are getting some extra cash in here from the payment processor and basically lying to me on the real cost of this entry.....

I went and had an amazing time, just as good as last years game. Blue team was a good group of folks and I'd say we put up a good fight considering we were down 20 players for the final battle. The heat was killer and the rain was a nice change of scenery for the end battle.

I was a little upset about the pricing for paint and preorder though. I noticed the fees would make it the same price to pre book or buy that day and I called the field to make sure the paint prices for graffiti were the same. I was told paint cost the same wether you prebought or didn't so I didn't preregister or prebuy. When I got there they charged me 15 more dollars per case then preregistering despite what I was told on the phone. Guess I learned my lesson for next year.

Yeah, this was different from regular play at xtreme. They had a lot of staff there to help out. I saw a lot of refs on the field. Also saw some Team Venom, there home team, doing some good work helping out. Overall, I would say I had low hopes for this game going in and was generally impressed. Standard issues like any big game of long lines before the game and also late start. But the lines did move quickly. I arrived at 9am, got in line to register at 9:10 and had paint and tags by 9:30. Chrono lines were pleasantly short. I think most people now have more consistent guns. I know I was shooting about 275 and even at the end of the day, I was getting the same range as opponents, so no major cheaters cranking up the speed later in the day. Game play seemed very honest. I had some doubtful shots, but did see people calling themselves out.

One fun point of the game was that many people got directionnally confused. Meaning they were fighting one direction, turned 90 degrees and kept on fighting. I was shot several times by my own red team. You know, I think I was hit more by friendly fire than enemy. I also got into the middle of an awesome fight of blue on blue.

Some of the blue team players (including out commander) were on a team from black ops paintball and their jerseys had red insignia on the sleeves, chest and neck. Sneaking though the woods one of them friendly fired me and the next life I friendly fired one of them. I guess I'm way too used to the duct tape on the arms for team colors they give out at other places.
There was lots of confusion throughout the day over who was where. With the secondary spawns the battle lines got confusing but I like that. At one point I managed to get back into red teams lines and was in hotel California all alone and I tagged 7 reds.
